Well aparnty the ram that was bought for my mates PC wasnt compatible with the motherbored, the motherbored was a:

Asus A8V Rev.2 Deluxe VIA K8T800 Pro (Socket 939) Motherboard

and the ram:

Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400 TwinX (2x512MB)

Alot of people said the whole system was compatable but the ram blew when the computer was turned on. Overclockers, the website where the computer was bought said that nothing can be replaced because its our own fault. Does anyone know a way of getting some of the money back on the ram, perhaps the mobo is broken as well. Well any advice would be super because my mate really dosnt have the money to be spending on buying new computer parts. Is there any chance we would be able to send the ram back to Corsair.

No, you bought the wrong ram, plain and simple. No one has to refund you.

yes he is correct u did buy the wrong ram currently amd mobo dont support ddr2 ram yet

AMD (your socket 939) doesn't support DDR2 yet. It does support dual channel though.
Whoever said the DDR2 RAM was compatible with your mobo is smoking crack.

Hulk

should have checked it out before you bought it. doesn't look like you are going to get your money back. sorry :/

DDR2 doesn't even fit in DDR slots...
They made the notch not line up to prevent you from doing just that.

as far as im aware, you legally have up to 7 days to return goods, no matter what.

Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000

You have the right to cancel this agreement upto 7 working days after receipt of the goods and
receive a full refund.

That was at the bottom of an Ebuyer email i received. I also read it in plenty PC magazines

Hope that helps

Edit: Oh wait, just noticed you blew the RAM.

Sorry man, looks like your outa luck.
Next time post here asking whats compatible an dwhats not, we know what were talking about when it comes to computers
