So here i am sitting and listening to Stone Temple Pilots (tune from their last album "Its all in the suit that you wear" :)

i got thinking.. its too bad some bands have called it quits.. like STP :|
they made great music.. so maybe thats why it was sad hearing they were going their own separate ways.. in the statement it said something to the effect of "we have achieved everything musically that we wanted and had nothing else to offer to our wonderful fans"

so.. is there a band that called it quits but u would have wanted them to continue since u love their stuff?

another one that comes to my mind is Rage Against the Machine.. tho some band members have gone on to create Audioslave and they have a great sound too :)

The Doors.

Not that they've called it quits, the lead man died :x

/me must make time machine

yep i agree with abom, i'll add soundgarden should have stayed soundgarden and rage should have stayed rage, and lets not forget nirvana :(

If only Freddie Mecury was still alive, i would have loved Queen to knock out some more classics :(

i think situations like queen, doors, nirvana, led zepplin, etc where a prominent member dying leads to the break-up are a different case personally.

i would have to say pink floyd (post-waters floyd is not the same band, imo). though i certainly understand how people break-up. i mean, especiially for people who are making music as an artistic expression primarily (like roger waters was), it'd be hard to keep that going for too long. compare that to long-lived bands like aerosmith they can keep "rocking" forever basically, b/c there isn't much art in the music.. they make the same few songs over and over again.

Erase The Grey. Best 5-song EP ever.

And I don't know if Epidemic is officially dead or not - no website updates since 6/03 and their label doesn't seem to support them anymore. :(

well Further Seems Forever is still around, but Chris Carrabba left to do Dashboard Confessional. I like dashboard confessional more than {fsf} but {fsf} would be better with chris.

ps...get the song "New Years Project" by further seems forever, unless your only into rap or something...you will like this song, imo its the best song ever.

Rage Against the Machine for sure.

I consider it a blessing. Not having to hear uninformed idots 'sing' about their political views to shitty music is a good thing in my book.

Soundgarden is the only breakup I can think of for this.

Definitely RATM, and Roger Waters never should have left Pink Floyd.

Hi guys , a band breaking up is never a good thing , I love everyone. Music is so great guys , I like every band I could never say anything bad about any of them. I hope you guys have a great day and are forever happy! :)

ok, popov is one of us now, someone give him a copy of the manual. oh and 6pm happy-hours on fridays dmitri, cya then ^_^

well, i think of it like this: waters didn't leave floyd, he broke the band up. by the time they were done, it was waters' band anyway. gilmour was good, but he wasn't the force behind the music. it's interesting that neither of their solo stuff is particularly good, imo. and post-waters floyd is trash in terms of song writing. i consider final cut to be the last floyd album :) mlor is "ok", but it's not pink floyd.

The Division Bell was the last Pink Floyd studio album (not the final... there's still a microscopic chance they could get back together). It's alright, but not great by any means.

It is, however, the only Pink Floyd album to top the charts in both the US and the UK.

i suppose i like Division Bell just vaguely more than AMLOR, but neither are anything compared to real floyd. but didn't WYWH top the US and UK charts? hmm, guess 1994 was a profitable year for nostalgia.

sometimes band breakups are for the best. Take the rolling stones for instance...talk about in-fighting (not to mention crap music). 2003-04 seem to be the years of the (crappy) band reunions.

Personally I don't particularly like any of the bands mentioned so far except led zeppelin and soundgarden, as I can't think of any others, I'll go with those.

The Spice Girls.

But seriously :p I think it was the Smashing Pumpkin's time, their later efforts weren't so well recieved =/

pink floyd, beatles, ratm, tupac, "not really a band", old limp bizkit with the cool guitarist

I just thought of one that I really care about!

Oasis , I never liked them but I was young , I appreciate their sound more now. Too bad they arent around anymore to make anything good.

And definetly the Beatles

And I was sorry to see the Guitarist from LB go , but apparently he didnt assert himself much because their records started to go rap until they got their new guitarist. The first one was great , and the newest one isnt bad at all.

The Gallegher(sp?) brothers were the two biggest assholes of our time.
