Banning in World of Warcraft

I have a friend who was banned for a few days for saying a racist joke (he's a dumbass, and deserved it.) Anyway, I was wondering how bans work in that game. Do any of you guys know how bans are issued, and what powers are behind them?

Well I guess they have 100s of GMs running around the world helping people and looking for troublemakers. They get paid to do this.

Actually they get paid to ignore users, and then ban people for being "too good"

What do you mean "issued"?, if you mean how many time you can be banned before you can kiss your account goodbye forever it's probably 3 minor offenses (racism, spamming, being an idiot etc etc...), or 1 major offense (cheating, exploiting, haxxing).

"Powers"? eh? The power behind ban's is Blizzard, they get the last say and always will, afterall it's their game to do as they like with it and ban whoever they feel like banning if it comes to it for as long as they like.
