Barney wont follow me from map 1 to map 2

Hi, I am trying to get the barney NPC to follow me across a series of maps. He follows me in the inital map just find (used an ai_goal_follow) and I placed another ai follow ent in map 2 and set its starting state to active just like the first in map 1. however, when i travel from map 1 to map 2, barney freezes and I get a text message: "AI Disabled" how do i wake barney up across a map transition? Thanks.
 
You have everything set up with a landmark and trigger transition and Trigger_landmark (or whatever that brush based landmark entity is)??
 
yeah I have everythign setup now and toby still freezes up, I tried to "wake" him and it still didnt work. any1 have experience with this?

I get the feeling something disables your AI. Just out of curiosity, what happens if you spawn a new npc in that second map. Do they freeze aswell or what?
 
turns out there is a line in the cfg file for my mod that I could add to fix this. I did and it worked. Apparently, whenever I tried to bring toby across, it disabled ai globally and I would have to then turn it back on. I coulda done it with a trigger auto but the text error displays would get annoying. Thanks
 
Toby is most likely the name he has used for his npc. This isn't rocket science =]

Naming an npc_barney to toby? And also, the npc is refered to as barney in the beginning. Maybe there are clones involved.
 
I always name my first npc fred. There is no reason behind it, just something I do. No matter if it's a male barney, a female civ or whatever.
 
I don't see how that has anything to do with being a lead designer. As long as I know what's going on, and relay it to any team members that may need to use it how would that ever be a problem?
 
Not as long as there is just one of these occurances.

But if everyone on a team has a little thing like this one then it can get quite messy.

And then if you got a new member you'd have to let him in on all of this in the beginning because otherwise he'd be clueless.
 
Hehe, to clarify, toby (Toby Buckets) is a character who follows you, the player, around trick or treating with you and arguing with you in my mod Halloween Half-Life 2: Pumpkin Night. I failed to keep continuity in refering to him when I posted my issue here. I am using the NPC_Barney as the base entity for this character. Heres a new screenshot of toby and you can find out more about the mod by clicking on the green link in my sig.
