I've noticed that most people frown upon hollowing and reccomend that you build a room from scratch. What's the quickest way to do it? Just build a wall and copy and paste it? or is there more you can do to quickly set up a room using hotkeys or something?

I find that now it is easy to make a box fast, without copying and pasting, just draw one side, then another, and pretty much fill the sides until you have a box, the new hammer does something to make it faster than it use to it seems.

to build a room i think the best bet is to use the block tool
,then press enter and go to , tools makes hallow ,
this will make a room in the camera view :D

dont hollow, to make a room u need 6 blocks

maybe at first, just a couple of times so u get used to it, u create a block of the size you want your room to be and then build the 6 blocks arround it.

when u get used to it you will forget hollow ever existed :D

You can shift + drag objects to duplicate them. Ctrl-T brings up the transform window; great for quickly rotating an existing wall 90deg. to give you a perpendicular wall, which can be re-sized as needed.

Thank you, that's exactly the kind of thing i was looking for :)

Yeah I use this constantly, it's usefull even if you want to completely reshape the brush because it carries over the texturing from the last brush.
Such a time-saver.
Come to think of it, apart from ctrl-clicking to select multiple objects, I don't think I use any other shortcuts.

I also use shift-[abesx] constantly. ctrl-L duplicates stuff. There are likely more; these are just from memory.

And for anyone who doesn't know:

space-mouseleft (look around)
space-mouseright (longitudinal shift)
space-mouseleftright (lateral shift)

Those are great for zooming around your map at high speed, checking for holes and such.

Just a quick question, I don't venture in these forums much, what's wrong with hollowing?

If you want a room which is just a box, you know all the dimensions you want, and you don't use some obscure value for the wall width, nothing.

I don't bother because it doesn't save much time and I prefer working with one dimension at a time. And I'm going to have to ungroup it and resize it eventually, to install doors, windows, etc.
