For quite some time now, I've had a large interest in learning to create custom textures for maps, models, and of the sort. However, I've found a bit of shortage on places on how to actually learn the basics. I am mostly interested in learning on how to texture models and such. I have Adobe Photoshop CS, many brushes, as well as plugins already installed, so these would be no problem. I was wondering, to all those texturers out there, 1) What techniques do you use to create textures? 2) What are some good reference sites as well as tutorials? 3) Should I learn to UVW unwrap as well, or is this not required? If any of you out there could possibly assist me in these questions, it would be highly appreciated. As well, if you have the time, I'd appreciate it if you would PM me if you have quite a bit of information. Thanks!

I'm only in my infancy as far as texturing goes.....i'll look foward to tips posted here as well :)

id would say thats learning UVW upwrapping would be a good idea, but not mandatory. as long as the person that modelled the model your gonna texture knows how :). Ankalar (however you spell it) released a silent texturing vid tutorial that will pretty much teach you all of the basics on texturing something. i dont have the link but maybe someone else can post it for you. heres a link that will get you started tho.
