ATTENTION Troops! some interesting results in the way of minor tidbits of info. Considering that EA and DICE are tighter than a frog's you know what with info, we were able to hear some rumblings at the convention.
Vehicles:
There are 30 vehicles
Planes will have a target tracking feature aka "Missle Lock"
Planes will have a flare and chaff system for defensive measures
Vehicles will be in the range of 6000-8000 polygons each
Helos will have the capability to transport up to 6 soldiers
Some vehicles will have 24 animated parts, namely a Chinese tank
Game engine supports up to 30 animated parts on vehicle...lovely eye candy!
Soldiers:
Ragdoll effects will animate a kill sequence
There will be a 15 piece weighted kit a soldier
Soldiers will be able to have a finer customization of kits
Over 200 combined animated objects/items on soldier gear for all Forces in game
Soldiers will be 3400-4700 polygons
Weapons:
8 individual animated pieces in most weapons
The "zoom" function will be through scope at the request of the community
Fully functional and game independent application for:
Vehicle Modeling/Modding
Terrain and level creation
Soldier customizations/modding
Structure customization
If you ask me, there is ALLOT to look forward to. The gameplay will be more fluid and have customized features. A word to the wise (and those with money to upgrade), if your PC is having trouble with BF Vietnam, then there will be no mercy on your machine for BF2. I would concentrate on RAM and a higher end video card, if you get my drift. Most of the level will be slammed into your RAM to allow the machine to run the graphics rather than the card, which will choke.
Expected "release" is in June or July of 2005.
