According to the article, the game will be set in the modern day (like Battlefield 2), with an emphasis on Middle Eastern settings and support for up to 40 players per team on eight different maps. For the numbers crazy, each of Battlefield 3's two factions will have access to its own assortment of 24 different vehicles and 17 different weapons. The game will also supposedly feature unlockable equipment, customizable characters, and in-game replay functionality.

They need to take a long hard look at everything that is shit in BF2 (a lot) before they decide that they can kick out another title with larger maps, bigger teams and new weapons alone.

So...its based on middle eastern settings...so like...BF2...with more vehicles and weapons? And new hairstyles for your characters? riiiiiiight...

Wow DICE/EA are seriously retarded.

Terrible idea to set the sequel in a modern setting again.

Imo, they should seriously play with the idea of a post-apocalyptic setting ala Mad Max.
Either that or remake BF1942.

I'm hoping this is a joke. A terribly unfunny joke. I already bought BF2 once, I won't buy it again just because it has shinier graphics.

I have won every Battlefield Game I have and I plan on winning the next one so I have no qualms with the setting.

unless they really ramp up the map detail, include environmental destruction ala Bad Company then this sounds fail if true, i dont mind another modern setting but it has to do/have something extra. I thought if they had a near future setting like that Battlefield esque game Frontline: Fuel Of War it could be alright

They either need to remake Battlefield 1942 or go off and start a new non-FPS franchise. Because we all know that if they made another shooter it would be Battlefield with different skins.

shouldnt they call it Battlefield 2.5? this sounds like BF2 with more stuff.

So basically it's everything that was wrong with BF2 but with extra crap which makes the game even more unbalanced and unplayable.

A tipster sent us PDF document which looked like an outline of features for Battlefield 3. The three page document is apparently prepared for investors which should get it by December of this year. It details basic features of BF3, and are as listed:

- Release in late 2008
- Powered by “Frostbite DX”
- Set in year modern day (just like BF2, ed.)
- Will ship with 8 maps, each supporting up to 40-players per team
- Two playable factions, NATO and MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition)
- Same “ticket-based” gameplay style as before
- Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle East
- Squads and Commanders are present, introduced are “Battalions” which consist of three to four squads.
- Five playable classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support
- Will feature 48 different vehicles (24 for each faction)
- Will feature 34 different weapons (17 for each faction) and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
- Other unlocks include different types of ammunition, body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.
- Possible public beta in “Summer 2008″
- Online stats tracking, awards and “real world ranks”
- “Soldier” feature, looks like MMO-styled characters and avatars
- Ranked servers will be available for resellers weeks before the game ships (for testing, apparently, ed.)
- In-game replay and recording feature
- VoIP, friends list, in-game IM-client and “extensive clan support”
- Built-in auto software updater (no more patches!, ed.)
- Widows Vista and OS X (no XP?!, ed.)
- Announcement and teaser trailer in January 2008.

that soldier avatar/customisation sounds cool, hopefully that will include weapons across different classes

At least if it has the Frostbite engine it better feature the same amount of destruction as Battlefield: Bad Company. At least then there'd be something new and exciting.

Still, I'm waiting for them to announce the maps and hear many of the same names as the ones in BF2.

They say that the expansion details have been leaked too. :| The game hasn't even been announced yet and expansion packs are already being created for it.

i wont hold my breathe...not too excited....yet

What a load of bullshit. If you've already thought about it then put it in the motherf*cking game. Expansion packs featuring stuff that should have already been in the game piss me off to no end.

Meh might get it we'll see.

Oh and Kyorisu how do you "win" a battlefield game? lol...

I see what you did there.

24 different vehicles and 17 different weapons

Thats like basically the same amount in BF2? Yay! :|

Please, BF1942 had ALOT more vehicles than BF2 ever did.

Err... no XP support?

I call shenanigans on the entire thing.

The day I play another BF game is the day cheats are legally hung from motorway overhead signage.

Weapon and avatar customisation sounds suspiciously like CoD4.

This game is basically what would happen if Battlefield 2 was released on Steam.

Excellent news. can't wait for the first gameplay screenshots.

If it's ETA is Q4 2008 then that makes perfect sense. Windows XP is already being phased out; it'll stop being sold retail by January 2008. EA has historically been a lazy and cost-cutting company, and probably doesn't want to waste time making sure it's compatible with XP.

And thus cutting off 75% of its PC customers.

That's ****ing stupid.

Cutting the costs will cut the sales so all in all that'll probably not work too well.

They should send a copy of this to everyone that suffered because of BF2.

Vista SP1 release date is Q1 2008. I hop it fixes vista by making the game's as fast as XP in the SLI section.

So they can suffer all over again, but with more people using the unfair weapons that, in turn, are also a lot bigger and shinier?
