According to an article by Neoseeker, it looks like Battlefield 3 will be leaving Direct X9 (and Windows XP) behind in favor of focusing more on Direct X11.

I'm not surprised to hear this, in fact I've been expecting more and more developers leaving Direct X9 behind to focus more on Direct X10 and 11. I just hope that there is more of a visual difference since most games that use Direct X10 and 11 don't really look a whole lot better than Direct X9 in any large way.
