Battlefield Heroes screenshots

Holy crap, that looks pure sex.

Looks like they're borrowing the art style from old WW2 propaganda posters.

ww2 propaganda pics were more realistic

but I agree the style is similiar:

popping wheelies on a sweet harley in the canadian armed forces? where the **** do I sign up?

Yeah those were what I was talking about, I think the style I'm thinking of was used more by the Axis rather than the Allies though.

Axis ones mostly consist of 23 000 identical soldiers standing in a determined square/swastika.

They're almost kind of scary looking... the eyes...

To me it just looks like BF1942 but redone (badly) in an artistic style in a desperate attempt to emulate Team Fortress 2 for a quick buck.

EA at its finest.

I'm really not joking, the art direction, if theres any, looks really lazy.

I hate having to sound like a fanboy here because I'm not, but...

When you play TF2, you can see the quality in the art and stylization, you can see it in how the whole thing is put together, that looks....well it looks like how I expect an EA borderline leech job to look like, lazy, un-inspired (beyond the notion that higher ups saw the success of another game and wanted to jump on its back a little) and just slapping awake an old franchise to use, slopping it with the badly applied make-up sales pitch of the month.

Edit: Oh, and I reckon they didn't spend much money on the artist, it kinda shows. :P

Looks... ok.

Also, no attack heli makes baby jesus cry.

I don't think they had those back in WWII. Just a hunch. :P

I'm not liking it at all though, I think it just looks wierd. And plus the damn thing is going to be so loaded with ads it's just ridiculous. :|

Actually, the line they're drawing right now is that there won't be any ads ingame. They'll be on the websites that deal with the game.

Huh, we'll see how that works out. Hard to believe though, seeing as how in 2142, a retail paid for game they had ads in it ffs. :| Hope it's ad-free though!

Man, no kidding this game looks like utter shit..if you didnt know the anything about it you'd probably think its a psp port or something.

I am very uninterested in the game mentioned in the original post.

I'm not liking the move to third-person. But who knows, it might turn out good. I'll wait for a demo.

Free to play and Free are two totally different bottles of chips. Looks like another suicidal leap backwards in time and space to me, but the toddlers will probably love it.

Come on Dice. If the last boat you built was full of holes and sunk you to the bottom, patching the holes ain't gonna get you to float again - all you can do is drift sideways in the current and be crab food.

I cannot picture myself playing it. No doubt it'll be prone too all the problems 2 and 2142 face.

I know this is the internet and all, and I can't blame people for not jumping out of their chairs or anything, but there still seems to be a hell of a lot of knee-jerk pessimism floating around.

It's not replacing Battlefield 3, whose development is a badly kept secret. It's going to be both free and free of in-game advertising. And it's taking the Battlefield idea, scaling it waaay back, and trying to take out everything that was overly ambitious, buggy, or plain old not fun.

Sure we don't know a whole lot about it, but given the amount of time that many forum goers here have sunk into the Battlefield series, it's surely worth giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Micro Transactions are not Free in my book. And I'm a graphic whore because that's what I do. And I love and still play BF2 regularly despite the balance issues and cheats and fascist clan servers. And I hate EA because my account hasn't ranked up since last March so i'm entitled to knee-jerk them in the nuts.

They've made it pretty clear that they don't want to be charging for anything that is really going to mess with your playing the base game, so thats free in my book.

I think it looks like ass. But at least Dice has finally admitted that their game has nothing resembling realism in it and are embracing the fact.

details on gameplay:

Heroes is accessed through a web portal. You sign up, launch the game from there every time after, and can use the site to browse statistics. Advertising exists on the website and on loading screens, but not in the actual game. As far as character choice goes, you choose from Royal or National armies. From there you can choose soldier, gunner, or commando classes. Unlike Battlefield games of the past, you don't swap between classes in the game. Instead, you select a class, customize your avatar's appearance and stick with that class thereafter, like in an MMOG.

As you play you'll level up your class, gaining new special abilities and clothing types along the way. Gaining more experience in combat lets you level up special abilities, making them more effective. "You may be a stealth based sniper, or a gunner focused on absorbing damage from enemies rather than attacking," says Cousins. "Each class has a unique set of weapons and abilities to unlock and customize."

so they're going with an authentic ww2 experience? why even set it in ww2? seems something modern (more leeway in terms of tech, outfits etc)

The game is free to play, but you'll have to option to spend cash on microtransactions. "The things we sell will be determined by the opinion of the community, but we will probably start off with two types of items," says Cousins. "The first kind is purely visual items for your character – glasses, hats, boots, jackets etc. The second type of items is what we call convenience items. Let's say we have two people playing Heroes – one has lots of time on their hands and plays the game for four hours a night, leveling up their character quite quickly and unlocking new items and abilities (for free). The second player has less time on their hands as they have a kid or job. This second player can buy an item which gives him double experience points over a single weekend – so he's still playing the game, he's still building up skill and he's still unlocking the same items and abilities of free players, but he's doing it a little quicker because he's bought this item."

a game for casual gamers that penalises someone for being a casual gamer ..that makes no sense

As far as gameplay goes, you can capture flags in the game's two maps set for launch, but you don't need to. Each game is basically a team deathmatch with a 50 life limit. A kill detracts one point from the other team and for each flag snagged a multiplier for points taken away is added. To keep things moving along swiftly, respawn rates will be on a five second timer. Players worried they may be set up against difficult opponents need not fret, as a built in matchmaking system will try and bunch together those of roughly equal skill levels in the 16 player matches.

same old tired gameplay ..I cant see this sustaining interest for long ..deathmatch/ctf + playing dressup has it's limited appeal ..especially if you have to buy items to keep up to pace with the rest of the player community

During combat players will have quite a variety of skills. Incendiary bullets, x-ray vision, and temporary health bursts should keep gameplay varied. The commando class, the sniper, can cloak and sneak around the battlefield. At long range he'll be invisible, but his camouflage will be rendered somewhat ineffective at closer distances.

this is a ww2 game right? why wouldnt they have set it in modern times ..but ww2 sells so I can understand why ..it's just that x-ray vision and cloaking devices kinda ruins the setting somewhat

I cringe at the graphics and the Panzer III.

I'm waiting for this to play out but it does sound promising. In a GFW article, they said they will never charge for weapons, etc. Only if you you want say, a new set of clothes or something. They also said that plane whores and tank whores will have fun because they constantly respawn. My only minor complaint might be they cater too much too the crowd and dumb it down too much. Plus you can have people hop on the wing and stay there while doing loops. :rolling:

it's almmost the same thing:

Will the cosmetic clothing purchases eventually provide some kind of ability boost or otherwise give players a competitive advantage? "The current plan is that they are just for show, but if we think the community is interested in clothing items which give a stats boost, we will consider them."

cash for better stats ..say more hitpoints, better aim/more zoom on weapons ..all tipping the playing field towards those who buy stuff

Looks awful, the Battlefield series has now officially died.

just saw the video and admittedly it looks fun ..they need to define the faces a bit more though

I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's a total TF2 rip-off, art direction wise. And the whole micro transactions part reeks. I am gonna avoid this game like the plague. Bring BF3!

I think it is ridiculous to say that this is a TF 2 rip-off, just because Th2 is cartoony, and this is cartoony too.

It's like saying that Crysis has realistic graphics, so from now, every other game with realistic graphics is a Crysis rip-off.

Of course Crysis didn't invent realism, but neither TF2 the cartoonyness! :P

that anology doesnt make any sense: you're comparing apples and oranges ...realisim isnt an art style ..it's realism

and the point isnt whether it's cartoony ..all video games are cartoony ..how many real people look like the guysin gears of war? or even crysis .it's all still cartoony

anyways there is no denying that they're going for the tf2 look ..even if tf2's look was inspired by classic 40's and 50's animation ...it all springs from the same well

watch

haha, I haven't seen bugs bunny in a long time

The game definitely looks comparable to tf2, but I don't think you can count it against the game.
