Do any of you fellow forumnites play acoustic guitar? I just bought an I banzez acoustic and I wonder if any of you have some good tips on playing or if any of you can point me to some good learning resources. I've searched the internets and found some good sites, but I want to know from professionals where to look.

Its not tutorials specifically, but practicing songs you enjoy will really help you improve on basic skills. For all the tabs you will ever need:

My biggest problem right now is that my fingers aren't strong enough to create a clear note on the strings. I wonder if I should get a lighter gage string.

Well, the only guitar I have ever played is electric bass, and I am a beginner as well. As I said before, practice should build calusses on your fingers, so creating clearer notes will become easier as you play.

I too just started learning the guitar. I've only done basic chords and strumming so far though. And I have had a blast playing guitar tabs. Also, I have never read music notes before and I am finding it really hard..

I have an acoustic guitar, and all i can say is practice practice practice. I go to ultimate-guitar.com for tabs and chords. Some easy chord progression songs are "Marley Medley" from sublime. "Redemption song" is pretty easy as well, plus its a classic song.

That's OK, it comes as you practice. Having the strength to play barre chords on my nylon string guitar took me months!

Yeah practice, more practice, more practice.

Learn scales, the circle of fifths, stuff like that.

People said it already: practice makes perfect.

Make sure you're doing it right, too. I haven't had a guitar instructor for more than a month, so if I started practicing randomly on the guitar, I'd suck and be frustrated in the future and wonder why I suck.

When you are just starting out you have yet to get calices on your fingertips. Give it a few weeks and you will be able to hold the strings better. I started out with acoustic and migrated to electric, but i still love playing acoustic.

Try learning classical gas...that should keep you busy

I don't think you need a guitar instructor. I just jumped on playing the guitar after some years of piano and computer music, no problem. It helps to have someone who's a good player around, look at how they play, ask a question or two, maybe someone at school or osmething could help you around?

Just read up on the basics, how to hold chords etc, maybe look up a video or two, but front and foremost; just get to know the guitar as an instrument.. and maybe develop your own style in the process?

There's so much free info on music theory online if you're into it, especially for guitar, I'm not going to say teachers are worthless but they're not a prerequisite for becoming a good guitar player.

No that was Paul remember, there were pictures and everything.

just cause i rock doesnt mean im made of stone...

now take your goblet of rock, its a toast to those who rock...

and remember...we roll tonight, to the guitar bite!

I tried learning how to play the guitar, but I failed. Epicly.

"acquire" a copy of GuitarPro. A lot of tab sites have GP tab files to download that you can use with the program.

www.ultimate-guitar.com has some great tabs.

I"m a beginner too :p

It's Ibanez.

Also, music forum.

Acoustic takes a while to get use to holding down the frets. Thats one of the reasons I decided to go with an electric guitar. I just got one a week ago. I can play mary has a little lamb and happy birthday!! Haha. I'm attempting some of Nirvana's Song's Intros like Come as you are, they arn't that hard.
