What the title refers to is a not so high end system with good maintenance can run Hl2 very well.

my specs.

AMD 1900XP
1GB DDR PC2100 ram
FX 5900Ultra 256mb DDR (@4X AGP) Forceware 71.24 (from guru3d)
SB audigy
40GB hard drive
Half life 2 running in DX8.1 mode.

I regularly open my PC clean the dust and cobwebs lol. Defragmentations, Tune up programs to manage my memory correctly, only have certain background tasks running, Pageing File set corectly, etc etc. Its not a chore realy, just good maintenance.

and the game runs at full quality for everything, reflect all (awesome with joshuas reflection patch) 2XQ AA 1024 x 768.

im so pleased with the performance on my machine, as i was once to one of the "omg will this game run on my PC" people.

Valve i salute you for a fantastic scalable engine. HL2 deathmatch rocks.

Cheers Preacher

Ya they have done good work on their engine. I run this on a 9200se and it runs great! Do you get any stuttering problems? I would guess not (but correct me if I'm wrong). And what is the reflection patch about I havent seen it yet.

Looks pretty good cpnsidering the specs you have but you do have a pretty good graphics card and RAM so that's a bonus for you really. The only place your PC is lacking really is the processor.

Also, I believe it'll be possible for you to force the 5900Ultra to do DX9.0 mode if you want to crank everything up.

yeh but since theres no partial precision mode (a mistake by the godly valve) DX9 will force my FX into running constantly at 32bit precisoin, instead of a mixed mode like 16 bit for most textures and 32 when needed.

besides the MAIN difference is the Water, i can live without extra metal specular lighting or whatever the DX9 version does hehe. probably softens the edges mainly, shadows, water bank etc.

i can live with just teh nice water :D

and the water reflection patch is a user made patch tat alows cards that can only run in DX 8.1 to have DX 9 type water effects. if you google either DX 8.1 Water reflection patch, or JoshuaC you should find it.

yeh, i know im not doing anything Monumental hear. but i dont exactly have todays most amazing PC. but i look after it well. Far to many times and Posts have i seen people with MUCH higher specs than me, chugging along at bad frame rates etc.

Look after your PC, and it will look after you :D
