Benchmark...

What in the bloody hell ever happened to the damn benchmark?
I mean we all knew that HL2 itself would be delayed so we wouldn't have it on the 30th, but I was still under the impression we would have at least the benchmark on the 30th.
I emailed Gabe asking if we were still going to get the benchmark or something but he hasn't replied.
Bullshit if you ask me.

I had to RMA my new motherboard, processor and graphics card at the start of September as I fried them (oops). I was super worried I wouldn't get replacements before HL2 came out. Of course, it was delayed, and I finally got my replacements on September 30th! - Great I thought - If I put this together quickly I will have that lovely benchmark on my screen before bed-time.

It wasn't to be

God things looked so good, until September! Where did it all go wrong?!

Benchmark was never made for the public... imo. let alone released before HL2 retail had shipped.

it was just hope full thinking on community.

how bout we all just forget about hl2....since its life is over. When you finally get hl2, your gonna start it up for the first time, and then it will crash, all your windows will say H4xed on them and your computers harddrive will be deleted...

I dunno. I've heard rumours that Valve are busy trying to sort out some serious problems they've had recently. I don't know why they don't just forget everything and release the benchmark.

Although, maybe it's due to the fact that if they released the benchmark we'd have some of the content and resources that are needed for the stolen source code to work. It's not a good idea at the moment.

The benchmark has game content in it. If they released the benchmark before the game was released, people would be able to play parts of the game.

Look, the benchmark was coming, the last 3 BINK movies were going to come after Steam 1.0 release, the game was going to be released September 30. Guess what? one week before all this an idiot breaks into Valve and every single employee at Valve is now busy with damage control and investigations etc.

The benchmark wasn't supposed to go public at that time. That presentation was for the press, they were going to release the benchmark to the press sites/mags/etc on the 30th, not to the public.

True dat. It's kind of depressing, this forum used to be a lot more interesting. I've suggested to the mods before that they make a "INFORMATION ONLY" forum, where each thread would actually have some real value in it, instead of, like 1 out of every 1000 threads here. But I guess it would be too hard for them to moderate, too many people would post BS in the wrong forum.
