Benefactor ... can't jump

I am stuck for the first time in the game in the Benefactor level. I have only the "new" gravity gun and have come to the small fence that needs to be jumped to get into the next room with the generator???

No matter what I try I can't jump using the space bar to get over the very small fence. Tried reconfiguring the jump buttons to no avail. Walkthroughs say you need to jump the fence.

I'm out of ideas and would appreciate anyones help or suggestions. Thank you in advance for your help.

Another one joins the "cant jump crew."

This has been a problem with others recently. I'm not exactly sure how others have overcome it.

Wait a sec', I'm sure I heard about this on Steam's forums.... I'll get back to you....

Edit: Okay, I found it. when you got into pod at beginning of "Our Benefactors" did you press the "Use" key (in my case, space bar, but in most people's cases "E" key) or did you jump in? Because in a Steam thread someone had the same problem and it turns out it happens when you "jump" into the pod, rather than "Use" the pod. Go back to before you get into pod and get in this time using the "Use" key, that ought to do it.

Don't press the jump key when you're in a pod.
