Beowulf, and why its epic

I want to go see it soon. Should have went yesterday.

It failed.

Bastardized a classic story and turned it into 300 version 2.0 with computer animation, stupid plot twists, and unnecessary male nudity.

Because we all know that female nudity is necessary right? I will never understand why people get all uppity about nudity in any form...

Anyways, I will eventually see it. It's getting decent reviews so it really can't be that bad. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece anyways.

I agree with the bastardization of the story, but it's hardly a 300 v.2

It's a pretty kickass film, though, if you ignore the liberties taken with the story. Clearly it condenses a lot of stuff and leaves out a lot, but it hits the high points.

Oh, and you have to see it in 3D or else you're not getting the full effect.

Grendel scared me. It's probably the one thing preventing me from seeing it again in 3D :(
I enjoyed it. Some of those mead hall wenches were pretty good looking, even though they looked like they came from Shrek.

Oh and
I did not like how they portrayed Hrothgar. Old, drunk and stupid? Nay.

I also wanted to join in on that song that the Geats were singing on the night where Grendel dies sooo bad.

Every time I see the commercial on on TV I think "THIS IS SPARTA!!!!"

wow, I thought it would suck ass. From the trailers it seemed like everything was really cheesy and lamed-up by being cg.

Fantastic movie, going to see it again tonight with a little ganjika influence. :D

Because its an extended narrative poem in elevated or dignified language, celebrating the feats of a legendary or traditional hero?

Oh, the movie... Didnt that suck ass?

Judging by this thread, apparently not.

I'm studying the poem right now. I hope the film does it at least a little justice.

That's because they are trying to cash in on fads. Definition of Grindhouse anyone?

I saw it in IMAX 3D and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. That said, I'm not sure I'd have liked it in a normal theatre. And they needed to animate John Malkovich's face more. He looked more plastic than the others.

I really enjoyed this movie. The story was great and the dialog was well written. They changed the story a whole lot, but for the better.
In the original poem, the dragon just sort of came out of no where instead of being the son of Beowulf. Also Beowulf killed Grindle's mother in the Poem and there was no love affair between Grindles mother and Beowulf, so Beowulf was never ashamed of a secret. The writters definitely got very clever with the story.

Yup im going to a imax 3d showing probably mid week.

The rubber-faced imbecile yelling "I AM BEAOWUF" commercial made me swear I wont watch it even on bootleg DVD.

I watched it in Imax 3D too, amazing.

They pretty much had to adjust the story, a dragon appearing out of nowhere 30 years later might work well in a poem if it's well written but in a film it needs some kind of explanation.

Oh god, I just watched this movie.

What a trite piece of shit.

Just about everything I hate about movies was in here.

Everyone that I've talked to says this movie was terrible and in no way sticks to the original story. I am guessing this is just another typical act of hollywood taking something cool and shitting all over it to feed to the general public.

I'll wait till it's out on bittorrent. I just didn't get a tingle in my bottom from the previews.

I wouldn't say that. Some necessary adaptations to make it work in the medium of cinema but done well and faithfully given the challenges.

It's actually got more of a brain than 300. Given the class of the original story and the writers who adapted it that's hardly surprising. The film has solid acting, script, direction, story, and effects. What is there to complain about? The fact that a few things had to be changed a bit to make a medieval saga work as a film?

I liked it becouse it was so true to life. Just yesterday I had to kill three polar bears with my bare hands.

Seriously, it was not the most amazing movie ever but well worth my time and money.

The trailer didn't get me even slightly excited. Good thing it clearly shows that "HE. IS. BEOWULF!", to avoid any confusion as to who is the main character.

I saw it last night. My two thiughts were, "I bet this would be cooler in 3D", and, "I can't wait 'till games look like this."
