well from the choices there i have voted ak47 due to it's very simple formula for success, there are more ak47 variants in the world than all the other guns put together
They are an almost flawless design, cheap to produce and repair the only disadvantage to the ak47 is the round it fires, a bit short range and lowish stopping power compared to other calibres.

Shorter range yes, "lowish stopping power" not really, at close-medium ranges it outdoes 5.56 almost all the time.

And have people actually used them? Or are we just basing this poll on games/movies/[mis]conceptions?

I havent used them in real life, but i do know factual info on em, not CS stuff(of which most is wrong). Next weekend one of my dads friends is gonna bring an FN FAL i can shoot, and im soon gonna buy a WASR-10 (romanian made ak47)

I was comparing 7.62 NATO, much better stopping power, i'd have a HK G3 anyday.

Oh, .308, definately much better but with the bigger round comes the problem of a smaller magazine capacity, more recoil, and being able to carry less ammunition. Aparently some soldiers say they cant take the recoil of the .308.....i think thats BS

Pfft, you fail at making good options..
Anyway, my favourite is the AK-74M, 5.45 Calibre/mm, m/s 900, bullet weight 8 g, weighs in at 3.4kgs.
Beautiful weapon, (un)luckily, due to Swedish weapons law, I can't use assault rifles/submachineguns, I can only use pistols at the gunrange.
However, I hope to get to shoot with an AK-74M later on, perhaps while on stay in another country.
I'm actually looking at buying official deactivated AKs off IZHMASH, legally they don't require license in countries like the UK etc, but I'm not so sure about Sweden, I'll have to call and check.

Anyway, I think CAR15's are cool. I've never shot one, but from what i've read, they're better than the M4, versatility wise.

Yeah, it's just a carbine used for "special" situations where an M16 is too heavy.

Yeah, it's just a carbine used for "special" situations where an M16 is too heavy.

It's just more compact, sleeker version used for short and medium range combat.

The L85a2, as an all round weapon, beats all the listed options easily. It loses to all of them on weight, weighing in at a "heavy" 9lb and loses to the Ak47 interms of stopping power at shortrange and reliability. Stopping power is more a problem with the calibre of the rifle then the rifle itself.

As for everyone choosing the AK47, it is a good weapon but you'll soon lose heart with it when you can't hit a mansized target from over 200metres away, an l85 and an m16 can drop a guy at 600+.
