Today my dad told me he was going to Best Buy (I was planning to go tomorrow) so I thought i'd save my self a walk and some time by going today. I had about an hour till I was gonna head out, to buy what I was planning to buy. Inserting CD2 right now Which was Unreal Tournament 2004. Now, knowing that there is a version which comes with 6 CDs and a version which you could get a DVD, I decided to do some homework. I went to the Bestbuy website, found the game, looked at the versions, box art, and the prices. I find what I want to get http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1077630652010&skuId=6573674&type=product
so i'm thinking "great i'm done!" Inserting CD3 right now.
So I get to the store, which I find the PC Gaming section, I find the same box art, I go to cash register, and purchase it. On the way home i'm thinking about porn, booze, and how much fun UT2004's multiplayer is. I get home open the box, but WAIT what do I see? I see a pack of 6 CDs. BASTARDS.

You're an idiot.

Next time, check to make sure you are buying the DVD. It's in a DVD box, (you know, like the ones movies come in? :O). Otherwise, it's in a normal box (you know, like computer games come in? :O)

I've never bought a DVD game before, and lately i've noticed they all came in very small box's and this one IS THE SIZE OF A DVD box.
If i'm an idiot, whats that make you? Cause obviousily I can read and you cant. Click on the link.

Did you think the last Unreal Tournament was as mean as it could get? Well guess again, my friend — Unreal Tournament 2004 is here to blast your sanity and thrust you into all-new levels of speed, power and down-and-out nastiness. This DVD edition features Unreal Tournament 2004 on two DVDs full of mayhem and malice.

Charge into battle with a range of vehicles, including lightweight attack vehicles and monstrous tanks. Utilize new weapons to pulverize your opponents and experience the action in new arenas and battlefields. New maps, new refinements and new surprises will ensure an unreal experience that has to be seen to be believed.

And if you look at the top Number of CDs : 2

Yes, i'm such an idiot.

Well I got the DVD version, but then I placed a different game into the DVD's spot, then tried to place the UT2004 DVD back into it's spot ON TOP of the other game, then it cracked. Then I cried. Now I can't play Red Orchestra anymore. It's been about 3 months now... I've had to download the Unreal Engine Runtime to make maps because I can't edit maps for UT2004. *sniff*

Wait, I'm having trouble understanding what you've done. You decided to get the DVD version so you went to the website to look for clues as to which version is the DVD version. You then compared the box art of the site and real life copy and ended up getting the wrong one.

Surely the box says on it "DVD Version" or "DVD Drive required"? Why couldn't you have read the box?

They screwed you over, click over to system requirments.
I see no cd-rom or anything, therefor a cd rom drive is not needed, but!
PC Drive Type and Speed DVD-ROM
A DvD-Rom drive is needed.

I know, those bastards!

What the hell are you two on about? Why would a game on DVD requiring a DVD Rom drive mean they've "Screwed you over".

Someone explain this to me PLEASE.

It said it CAME with a DVD disc, yet opening the box I find 6 install CDs, when ON the box it says "2 DVD's"

The box you have purchased? Because you didn't say that, you just say that it says that on the site.

Is it really that much harder to spend an extra 10 minutes sticking cds in? Grab a drink and throw on the TV, or if you have a fast enough computer, surf the web. I never get the DVD versions anyway :)

Does it say 2 DVD's on your box, or the box you thought you bought? And if the box says 2 DVD's, and it actually has CD's inside, that isn't Best Buy's mistake, it's the manufacturer's.

You got ****ing screwed man. You shouldn't even be buying that version. You should have bought the Editr's Choice edition, it's only $10 more expensive and comes with all the best mods in the scene, plus a TON of extra maps and NECRIS!
I bought the 6cd version on release because there was no other version around at the time (the Collector's Edition tin was about 2 weeks later) and I couldn't wait.
*Enormous Unreal fan since the original Unreal in 98. Unreal 2 was a piece of shit.*

Wait, the Editor's Choice edition isn't even that much more expesnive. It's only a little more because it's on DVD only - the extra content is free. You can still get the EC content free though as it's a free download from Epic.

Does "screwed" have a different meaning to when I last checked. Seriously.

Last time I checked, buying the wrong version of a game doesn't cout as being "screwed. It was more of a bit of a mistake. (he still hasn't explained whether the box he purchased said DVD, he's just said that the a DVD Version was listed on the website)

"****ing screwed" would be if he bought the game, and then found out the publishers now own his house because of some small print on the box.

I ask again, RTFMy, did the box you physically purchase say "DVD version" on it? Don't point at any website because both a DVD version and a CD Version is listed. And if you did get the CD version, why can't you take it back and get the DVD Version?

Wait... let me get this straght... in the US, when you buy a game that is on a CD, is it not in a DVD case? Here in the UK EVERYTHING is in a DVD case!!

Yeah, in the US they still use the big box format for PC games if they're on cd. That's the one thing that made me sad back home in Coventry. EVERYTHING was dvd case.

From what I gather you are complaining that the website tells you there is a DVD version, but you went to the shop and bought it presuming it would be the same one as the website?

Schoolboy error.

If it says CD-ROM edition the box, it's your own fault. If it says DVD-ROM on the box, but it had CDs in it is their fault, you can take it back I am sure.

I own the DVD version, it is in a DVD case. The CD version is in a traditional cardboard box. I don't know what it's like in other countries.

The DVD edition is a special edition with extra video clips on the 2nd DVD. On the very top of the box, there is a bar that says "2 DISC DVD EDITION", in a typical DVD case. If your box doesn't have that, and it's cardboard, you're an idiot.

first of all, u should have read the box before purchasing...just because the website has a DVD version listed does not mean they only carry DVD versions.

secondly, even if the label on the box was wrong (meaning it said DVD edition and u found CDs in it) it still isn't Bestbuy's fault...wanna know why? because Bestbuy does not alter the contents of the products... this goof-up was made during the manufacturing process.

how do i know this? my brother works at Bestbuy.

Wow, damn, 6 CDs that you'll never use again after installation since you no longer need a CD in the drive to play UT2k4. Boycott them, boycott them good!

As I said EARLIER it says DVD Editon on the box on the website, and the BOX I BOUGHT. THANK YOU.

You didn't say anything about the box, you just talked about the website.

Take it back. Or learn to live with the CDs. In my day, we used to get games that came on 15 floppy disks. 15!

I envy you :P

I don't understand why it is taking the US so long to switch over to DVD's... And even if we don't switch, I don't know why we still use the little boxes :rolling:

I quite like the boxes, they look neat. a looad of dvd boxes looks cheap, i dont like those films that only come in a dvd box and just the dvd. i want little manuals and things :p

And Suicide42, i like your collection :naughty:

Ack, no, those boxes were the worst thing EVER. I'd always find a way of accidentally standing on them or something and they'd end up looking really tatty and shite. I love the whole DVD box concept; they can be posted through the letterbox when your order them online, too. Big plus.

Id have to say your one slow dude..

1. DVD games come in thin cases.
2. It will say if its a DVD in the specs
3. It will say its a DVD on the BOX
4. There are 2 diff DVD and CD versions

Thats the one you should get. SAME PRICE as the other DVD and cd versions. Just this one comes with more maps and instead of downloading the patch its right there.

How can you say best buy is the idiot? I dont understand people who blame their own mistakes on someone else. Funny.

Meh, With game boxes.
I throw out the box after I'm done.
Don't have a dvd drive yet, So DVD-roms are out of the question.

OMG...that means somewhere out there....there is a DVD in a CD box!

:sniper: Recall all the boxes, this is a national emergency! :sniper:

Now I know you're lying.
You missed the "DVD Games in thin cases" part. A thin DVD case will not hold 6 CDs.
STFU and leave.
