I've got this Best Buy coupon for 10% any combination of regularly priced music, movies, video games & computer software. I've narrowed it down to three PC games: Halo, Far Cry, and Painkiller.
Which do you think I should buy?
if you want fun deathmatch action, get painkiller.
if you want a game to test your PC with stunning visuals and phisics, get far cry.
if you want a game that has a great story and gripping singleplayer campaign, get Halo.
Dont really think about Multiplayer, as each game has an average MP to it. Halo's boasts fun, deathmatch style shooting with lots of veichles, Far cry offers a decent assault mode with a cool engineer class (but lacks in DM) and painkiller offers a great deathmatch experience. So halo is teamplay, Farcry is tactical class based and Painkiller is deathmatch.
i personally prefer halo, as it is a classic which has great graphics and gameplay. I own farcry too, but i find the single player much too cliched and uninteresting.
1. Far Cry - Its third generation material, gets slightly tedious when your near the end.
2. Painkiller - Just like Serious Sam with great graphics/physics. Fun.
3. Halo - Overated, simple as that. Very repetitive and tedious. I had great expectations for this game, but nothing.
just to say, heres a short review of each of the games IMO. (hell, i have nothing better to do!!)
Painkiller- I do not own this game, but i can post a review from the fact that i have played it and that i have read a lot about it. My opiniopns could change if i bought the game.
IMO, the game is rather repetitive as there are only 5 weapons and there are only a certain number of ways that you can kill people... I like the card system, but i think the game would become pretty repetitive after youve dont the first quater of the game. Multiplayer lacks modes, with only Deathmatch and some Deathmatch spin-offs. It features big bosses and lots of enemies, but after that the list of good points starts to thin. My rating: 67% Its a good game, but theres nothing there to make it special.
Far cry - I own this game and i have played most of the way through it, plus sulkdodds told me everyhting that happens anyway.
The first thing that strikes you when you play far cry is the graphics. the lucious enviroments and stunning phisics lull you into a sense of paradise... but unfortunately this feeling disapears when youve played through most of the game. For a start the game doesnt ever get more beutiful- the levels become dark and dreary and the monsters take away what freedome you have by being ****ing annoying and killing you when you try and explore.
The multiplayer has a few modes, but theyre all relatively poor apart from the assault mode- whiich is fun for a while, but gets rather repetitive after a while. Theres a cool engineer class though, and its funh building walls and guns for your team.
IMO, this is just a taster of what average games will be like in the future, as NOTHING impressed me in this game other than the phisics and graphics. pretty sub standard story and gameplay. Who cares about big levels, anyway? it all looks the same. my rating: 85% Its definately a next generation game, but apart from the graphics everything has been done before. Dont expect it to blow you away.
Halo - i own this game and have completed it multiple times.
When i first started to play halo, i was not impressed. console feel, good (but not great) graphics, and standard phisics. But it got better. the veichles were fun, the levels were lush and the enviroments vast. Your taken all over halo, with levels ranging from an alien spaceship, to a zombie infested lab and even a far cry- like isleand. But it gets even better. Once youve played for a while, you cant put it down. its like a book- you want to find out what happens next, what these strange alien things are and why this "halo" is so important. After a while you suddenly realise... Everyones dead. The entire earth fleet has been wiped out. Your the only one left... and then it starts to get really good. Want to know more? buy it.
Multiplayer is very impressibve too. the veichles are fun and the team element is great... there are secrets in the levels and a number of modes. My rating: 93%. The best story for a FPS ever, plus great multiplayer and unbeatable gameplay. classic.
I thought everyone by now owned Halo. Do not get Painkiller for it equals wackness. FarCry is probably the closest if not better in terms of graphics to give you a feel of Half Life 2, its gameplay is OKAY I myself doesn't really enjoy it, but FarCry > Painkiller and Halo you should have had a year ago .
