Assuming one person had $2500 CDN (Roughly $1900-$2100 USD) What would be the best possible computer, if you bought it once the DX10 cards came out? (obviously buying the DX10 Card..)

I couldn't say exactly since the hardware that will be out when DX10 and Vista come...isn't here.

But dual core CPU with 1 or 2 gfx cards. PCI Express and 2GB of DDR2 800 or 1000 will be on most systems by then. If there are games for it, a PPU. You'll want at least a 20" screen to let your gfx card stretch it's legs.

Ok, I'm talking about $2500 CDN on a new computer from scratch.

New EVERYTHING, mouse, keyboard, GFX card (A DX10), CPU, EVERYTHING.

Its because we dont know the future that we cant tell you the exact price, our price range can only be a rough estimate. Just think of it as $400+ for the latest graphics card, $400+ for the latest cpu, prices are likely to go down for monitors and it really depends on which size you want and if you want it to be lcd or crt. And you can get a mouse and keyboard for next to nothing compared to these bigger parts (depending if you want a really nifty or basic pair of keyboard and mouse)

$400 for a CPU? I saw them for much cheaper. Also, I noticed there is a huge difference in price but hardly a difference in game performance when you compare the very best to the 2nd and 3rd best.

For example:
CPU 1 - $300. Average frame-rate in "GAME" 109
CPU 2 - $189. Average frame-rate in "GAME" 106
CPU 3 - $ 99. Average frame-rate in "GAME' 103

They are all good enough. Besides, from what I hear, DX10 will be putting all the work on the GPU. Previously, the particles (explosions, special effects, things like that) were done by the CPU.

What if DX10 cards go into a new special kind of slot and you find out that you need an entirley new PC for it? :|

Some games are very cpu limited if you have a slow gpu (quake4, all source games, fear) so a fast cpu does help alot. The example you gave was 100% a game that was gpu limited, like quake3.

Also Dog--, do you need a new monitor aswell? Also, the PPU will be a standard by then. Just wait till the time comes, then ask again.

Yes, I need a new monitor.

BTW, my main question was never answered.. A new computer from the ground up. please.

an FX-57 is better than Dualcore for present games (Although some games are beginning to become optimized). I found out the hard way. Actually owning one!

PCI-express is here to stay for awhile.....
It has plenty of bandwith still available for new cards to use.
