Its because we dont know the future that we cant tell you the exact price, our price range can only be a rough estimate. Just think of it as $400+ for the latest graphics card, $400+ for the latest cpu, prices are likely to go down for monitors and it really depends on which size you want and if you want it to be lcd or crt. And you can get a mouse and keyboard for next to nothing compared to these bigger parts (depending if you want a really nifty or basic pair of keyboard and mouse)Asus said:I couldn't say exactly since the hardware that will be out when DX10 and Vista come...isn't here.
Some games are very cpu limited if you have a slow gpu (quake4, all source games, fear) so a fast cpu does help alot. The example you gave was 100% a game that was gpu limited, like quake3.VirusType2 said:$400 for a CPU? I saw them for much cheaper. Also, I noticed there is a huge difference in price but hardly a difference in game performance when you compare the very best to the 2nd and 3rd best.
For example:
CPU 1 - $300. Average frame-rate in "GAME" 109
CPU 2 - $189. Average frame-rate in "GAME" 106
CPU 3 - $ 99. Average frame-rate in "GAME' 103
They are all good enough. Besides, from what I hear, DX10 will be putting all the work on the GPU. Previously, the particles (explosions, special effects, things like that) were done by the CPU.
