Hey, I'm really interested in starting to take up filming and editing film as a hobby and possibly as a career as I go into college. I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to what the best digital camcorder choice would be for me. Since i'm inexperienced, I obviously don't need anything top-of-the-line, but I also don't want something that's really cheap either. If there are any digital camcorders that stand out in terms of their price range, please let me know. Also, do most digital camcorders come with editing software? Thank you in advance for any help you give me.

You can buy a used or refurbished Analog camcorder for about 200$ but if you want to go to the PC then you have to buy a Capture card.

Personally, the lowest Camcorder that I would be looking at would be a digital camcorder with firewire like the Canon ZR80. 18X zoom and uses mini DVC tapes (60-90mins). Skimps on the still shots but you won't be needing that.

If you are looking below those price ranges, I really don't know what would be good.
