spoiler'd for huge chart
f250bestmoviesmaphq.jpg

looking at it makes me realize how many movies I still need to see

It's obviously not perfect, but it's probably the most accurate one I've seen.

I didn't see The Last Waltz on there

PICTURE IS VOID.

Take it off the internets, boys.

Kill Bill 1 & 2? Benjamin Button? The Green Mile? In Bruges? Big Fish?

Greatest movies ever? Seriously. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed them all, but I sure as shit never watched any of them a second or third time. If a film is good it's infinitely rewatchable, ala The Big Lebowski, The Usual suspects or The Seven Samurai. I can't say that any of those lot grace my DVD shelf. Also no mention of Blue Velvet or Mullholland Drive, yet we get 5+ Scoresse films. Goodfellas is a great movie, but Casino and the Departed are not great movies by any stretch of the imagination.

Are those his own personal 100 Best Films, or did he pull them off something like IMDB?

The Animation line seems way too biased toward modern films... they might as well have called it the "Pixar + Japanese Animation" line. Aside from Lion King (which is still relatively new, as in, it came out well after I was born), none of the classics are there. Where's Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Fox and the Hound, Land Before Time (the original), etc.? I find that strange. At least one of those should have beat out, say, The Incredibles, which I enjoyed but wouldn't consider to be a best film of ALL TIME.

Get Sin City off the action list. And the Sci Fi list is decidedly lacking. And V for Vendetta isn't a sci fi. :l

I didn't mind it aside from the god awful trademark Spielberg happy ending.

Did we watch two different movies? The ending is anything but happy.

Also, the Matrix is present yet Dark City isn't. Similar story but the other is superior.

The Matrix is like, if you took The 13th Floor and Dark City, and removed anything good about them, and then shit all over it. It's seriously one of the worst movies ever made.

Also, you know, speaking of complete garbage, Star Wars is on this list.

They may not fit in the category of truly wonderful pieces of art but they're still fairly entertaining films and are entirely worthy enough to be on the list.

As always these "Best _____ of All Time" lists are all down to personal taste.
I don't even see why it deserved its own thread.

edit: Also, is it just me or is The Dark Knight nowhere on that list?

There Will Be Blood is "World/Adventure"

Wat

Oh yeah, didn't notice them at the very bottom of the chart.

There Will Be Blood shouldn't even be on the list.

Surely, with the likes of such stupidity as Kill Bill, Hangover, Star Trek and Gran Torino it stands as a minor offence.

Did you miss the bit where the Spider Aliens bring the abandoning Mother back to life (personality and all) from an eons old lock of hair and her and David enjoy the best day ever before he falls 'asleep' forever?

I'd say that was pretty happy Vs the film fading to black with David sat in the submersible just asking the Statue of the Blue Fairy to grant him his wish until his Batteries eventually drained which was kind of where Kubrick was going with it

I disagree on that. I think its a very good film, principally for Daniel Day Lewis's performance, but also for the cinematography and manner in which it unfolds, esp given its very dialogue light. The film is driven by the imagery and the reactions of the characters to events via expression far more than words. It is firmly of its medium, rather than a narrative with pictures.

I can't say I've seen Star Trek or Gran Torino, but fair enough on the others.

While I agree with you that it's incredibly well done (Performed, filmed, etc), I found it the events and story to be silly and rambling. As I said in another thread, it's basically just watching Day Lewis be a giant douchebag for two hours. I hardly think that constitutes one of the "Best films of all time".

Its about understanding the insidiousness of it all. He is a douche, but its by his own hand, and in some ways you understand where it comes from.

Okay then (I am just pretty much going to echo what people have already said though) :

I second the absence of dark city WTF? And where is moon? (I'd maybe forgive moon cos it's new)
Too many films on here that are good but not best ever made -_- (e.g. star trek, sin city, gran torino)
personal gripe but I always hated 2001, no country for old men, goodfellas and jaws
wow that animation line is just pixar basically and a couple of anime that everybody knows o_O (where is the girl who leapt through time? :flame:)
Benjamin button? Kill bill? THE ****ING HANGOVER!??! **** OFF! I HATED THE HANGOVER!!! :flame:
Although a weird choice, I enjoyed v for vendetta so much that it is one of my fav films so I have no issue with that really.

There are way too many things being argued for me to jump into the discussion at this point.

Looks like La Haine aint on there. I'm going to the shops.

Ah, ghettoization of animation as usual.

Also 'The Hangover' as a best comedy but no 'Airplane!'? Two Guy Ritchie films?

Wrong in so many ways.

LOL, anger at someone else's subjective opinion of third parties' creative works.

I'm gonna print out this really big using the plotter at work ...then go at it with Tipp-Ex.
