Best game finale?

Couple that stand out for me....

Deus ex
Half-life 2
Metal Gear solid 2.
The Halo finale was pretty good, but the level design was a little stupid.

Metal Gear Solid 3. The big battle in the flower field is what kept me from bashing a crater in my PS2 after that ****ing awful escort mission with EVA.

Half-Life 2's was great too.

Ocarina of Time. The tower collapsing followed by an epic fight with Gannon is just something you never ever forget. And hugely impressive for the N64.

Man... I want TP.

I definitely agree with Half-Life 2.
The only other one I can think of at the moment is Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. The last level was awesome.

Super Mario Brothers You fianlly skip over that damned, "Your princess is in a nother castle" bullshit. And I bet you got some after you got home.

F.E.A.R.'s ending. The massive nuclear explosion that erupts, sending that Origin facility to hell. Witnessing that nuclear wave was pure thrills.

witnessing single-handedly the best character exchange in gaming

eh?:|

mgs3 i guess...the boss was just awesome, snake at the grave, win!

i loved the end to shadow of the colussus too

That brought me to tears. It would have been a thousand times better without EVA's teary narration though.

Yes, Half-Life 2 finale was great, Breens speech, strong emotions, action, top of the Citadel and finally G-man. Also happy ending in Blue Shift was great, that's reason what I want see Dr.Rosenberg again.
I like finale of Metal Gear Solid 2: SoL too. Especially speech of Solidus about his motives. MGS 1 was great too, fight and talk with my favourite willian Liquid Snake, destruction of Metal Gear and end of Gray Fox...awesome!

I loved the dark side ending in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. It was so epic, the descent to the valley of the jedi, finally taking down that SOB who killed your father, and then becoming the new Emperor. That was f***ing rich.

For me, Breen's office was the best game or movie climax Ive ever seen....

Freespace 2
HL2: Episode One
F.E.A.R.
MGS2
ICO

Grim Fandango
MIA - the end of the 2nd to last mission, the interveneing cut scene and the slightly freaky speach at the end (and if you get 95% effectiveness rating on ace, getting an even freakier speach and unlocking the UFO!)
Nod ending of Tiberian Sun
GDI "Ion Cannon" ending of Tib Dawn.

Well.. i'll be! Final Fantasy 7! FTW Oh man... the nostalgia. Makes me want to bust out all my old games and replay them. I'm gonna cry.

Among the ones already mentioned, Prey had a decent finale. The boss scene was no ball of fire (once you figured out what to do), but when you finally get your hands on decent amounts of the 'sun' ammo for the leech gun... everyone get the F back!

Outcast. What with the flying and Heaven on Adelpha being played. Man, that got to me.

Highly admitted Half Life 2

Prince of Persia: Two Thrones awesome game, the ending is in unconscious mode.

No mention of StarCraft? come on, whats with that?

In no particular order

Half-Life 1/2. Although i love the build up in Half-Life 2 to the climax (breen's office) and the execution, Half-Life 1 really has a one of a kind ending (or at least it did until the sequel came out).

Zelda:Ocarina of Time was ****ing amazing for when i was 11 years old.

Freespace 2 also gets a mention for how ****ing sudden it was.

The ending of Windwaker. Stab.

Those are the best ones i can think of.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - The last fight with Ganon was breathtaking, especially after all the shit you went through beforehand.

Legend of Zelda: Windwaker - Also a great ending, love the ocean literally caving in upon Old Hyrule whilst you fight to the death with Ganondorf in the downfall.

Half Life 2 - Is it that time again Mr. Freeman?

Half Life 2: Episode One - Easy to understand if you've seen it. Love the false sense of security at the train station, then the strider comes in with the combine forces and that kickass music starts up.

Grim Fandango - For some reason, it was really sad :(

Resident Evil 4 - Maybe it was just the jetski that sold it for me...

Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault - Explosions. Lots of them. All at one time.

Skullmonkeys - The Klogg is dead song!

I'll dig up some more later...

I guess the end of Half-life 1 is awsome.

wow well to go against the grade

I thought Half-lifes 2 ending sucked, such an anticlimax, contrast to Half-life 1.

Half-life left me gasping for more, Half-life 2 left me with the 'that's it?' feeling

Ep1 had a great ending, so 2 outta 3 aint bad :)

F.E.A.R. was a great ending.

Nearly every zelda game has a great ending, Ocarina, Wind waker and Links Awakening are my 3 faves, with Awakening being the best.

Prince of Persia the first of the new trilogy (sands of time) was truely awesome, as was the 3rd ones. Funny that the second which I think was the best game, had the worst ending :)

It is very good but I always thought Mossman's change of heart was a bit cliched, even if it did make sense.

Good point.

Starcraft (as well as Brood War)
Evil Ending of Knights of the Old Republic
Half-Life 2
Transense victory of Alpha Centauri

That's all I can think of ATM.

It's sure an overused idea, but I think it was the way it was pulled off that it was special. You could never call Judith a 'bad guy', she was always acting with Eli's best interest at heart, and we'd already seen her arguing with Breen regarding the future. I expected it, but in a good way.

I still haven't forgiven her for leaving Gordon and Alyx to die at the end of "Entanglement". I've never really understood her motives for doing that.

She loves Eli, and at that point believes that returning him to the resistance would simply entail in his death. She also seems to think that each side is working to the 'same end'.

Half-Life 2
The great sense of acompishment when you finally reach the Citadel walls, scale its epic structure and finally reach Breen's office. G-Man's speech has to be the best ending to a game I ever seen.

Half-Life 2: Episode 1
The Citadel exploding almost blew me off my seat, best explosion ever!

Metal Gear Solid 3
'You have earned the title of 'Big Boss'

Call of Duty
After all the battle you fight through all the battles in the game, and the final set-piece comes as you set eyes on the Reichstag, fighting to the top and hoisting the flag of the USSR to signal victory.

FEAR
Loved seeing the explosion plume from the chopper only to have 'creepy girl' suddenly appear.

Shenmue
70-Man battle, awsome!

I refuse to believe that no one has mentioned Hitman: Blood Money. That's one of the most original, intense and challenging finishes to a game I've ever played through.

It was pretty badass.

I thought it was funny that there were lots of people that didn't know you could revive yourself :p

I have trouble thinking of a good ending tbh. Most of my favourite games just cop-out and do the whole happy ever after thing (System Shock 1), or the alternative predictable twist thing (System Shock 2!). Some games i'm just glad to see the end of (Crap Game Name Here).

Half-Life 1 and 2 and even Opposing Force have above average endings... but they're not SO phenomenal TBH. And Blue Shift has one of the worst endings I've ever seen. So damned cheesy :p I liked Deus Ex's endings. Shame about Invisible War's compromise over those endings (everything happened! and some stuff that didn't happen happened too!). Actually, just shame about Invisible War (the ending of that game was crap as well. They give you four options, but why the hell would you want to fight your old player character?)

Hmm... here's something you won't see often: I liked Unreal 2: The Awakening's ending. In principle at least. The rest of the game may have been a sweaty sack of s**t, but I couldn't help but actually care about the deaths of John Dalton's crew. You know. "Amusing Alien #2557", "chick with the boobies" and "the other guy who probably smokes and shit". Shame you have to get through an entire game to find the one good idea.

Oh, and Archimedean Dynasty. Obscure enough for you? It wasn't all that flashy, but it was sad to see that chick fly to her death for the good of all mankind, and to hear later in the credits roll that actually, you'd only just wounded part of a massive machine. Got me excited for a sequel. Funny that, because Aquanox is one of the few games I hate more than Unreal 2 and Deus Ex IW. For one it's a far worse game than both :p

Call of Duty 1 had a sweet ending, storming the reichstag and all.....I loved it.

What's the ending to Hitman: Blood Money? Spoil me.
