in much the same way HL, Halo, and OoT were just extensions of the FPS and role-playing genres.. yes.

Well I voted other, because I think the best games of all time have been a nice mix between things like the Fallout Series, Pirates! and yes indeed Half-Life and others. I hardly think Halo deserves to be on that list.

I've been compiling a list for the past hour or so and I've probably got almost 100 games that I don't want to leave out... and that is even when I count all games in a series as one. After I put them in alphabetical order I might make a poll if you guys don't mind yet another of these "Greatest Game of All Time" polls.

Civilization is both extremely addictive and educational. It should have been in the list.
But Doom is above all IMO, in terms of groundbreaking tech and gameplay.

and doom wasn't groundbreaking for crap. system shock 1 was more advanced technologically (sloped surfaces) and gameplay-wise, yet it wasn't made by a big-time developer, so it was overlooked.

for a few old console games that were incredibly awsome.....if your younger than 18-20 you wont know these

System shock 1 came one year after Doom. Naturally it had more advanced tech. But that was just a little step compared to the huge technological leap from Wolf3D to Doom. Doom was also the first fps that included multiplayer over a network.
