been listening to some of my older music, and realised the great guitar solos are pretty much all in music that was around before i was...

for me: Dire Straits - Local Hero

lets see what you all think is the best :P

well I like brother's in arms (the dire straits song not the game) but local hero's great

too many to list from Hendrix to David gilmour, to eddie, to andy summers to paco delucia to stevie vai

I like the solo in the song Ride the Lightning. It just sounds great, plus it's nice and long :).

Dire Straits rule

...but I'd say: Metallica - Master of Puppets

Am I allowed to post a clip of the song as long as it's not the whole thing? Just a tiny snippet.

Which solo from that song?

If by linked you mean 2 minutes apart then yes they are :).

The opening riff to Heartbreaker or Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin, or the opening to Money for Nothing - Dire Straits.

Also Jimmy Page's solo on the live version of Since I've Been Loving You, off The Song Remains The Same DVD

I'll post the sound file anyway, if the mods see a problem with it they can just remove it. It's just a small piece of the song Ride the Lightning, well just the solo actually. I really like how the solo sounds in this song, though some people I know disagree.

Here it is.

Tell me if you like it.

Yeah, Ride the Lightning solo is pretty good. Also one of my all time favourite Metallica songs.

I think my favourite solo at the moment is in Irond Maiden's The Evil That Men Do. It's awesome, and in my opinion one of Adrian Smith's finest moments.

Fleetwood Mac - The chain is also one of my favourites. toward the end of the song...one of the most memorable rifts of my childhood, watching good old Formula 1 and loving the solo as the intro music.

Hmmmm....

Pantera-Domination
Randy Rhoads-Solo from the live tribute album
Pantera-Cemetery Gates
Metallica-To Live is to Die (middle solo, which I think is played by James. It's the soulful lead played over the clean passage.)
Van Halen-Eruption (duh)
Led Zeppelin-Stairway to Heaven.

Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Solo from Free Bird by Lynard Skynard.

No, but I know a lot of people who feel the same way.

"In the name of God" by Dream Theater. or maybe
"As I Am" by Dream Theater.

Both are kickass.

A Perfect Cicle - Magdalena... Not really a solo just love the vibe it gives me

Hysteria by Muse, solo after the second chorus.
Put in the background in the UK video :/
Actually given some focus in the US one :)

nice double guitar video :D

you noobs

Mark Tremonti Open your eyes.

It's seems that old rock is coming back.

I gotta say it, I made this thread not too long ago. Next time search...Gilmour is the best guitarist, comfortably numb is the best guitar solo period.

The Sleep was Dime's best solo... ;)

Eddie Van Halen - Solo in Beat It (Michael Jackson song) listen to the song, please ignore the fact that it's Michael Jackson if you don't like him, just listen to the solo, it's absolutely amazing.
Also Eddie's Eruption and Spanish Fly are good, and I love his 1st and 3rd solo in AfterShock and his solo in not Enough seems to have a huge effect on the music.
Eddie Van Halen... Genius.

The Beat It solo, amazing.
