what do you guys think the best hip hop/rap album is. i think illmatic by nas is the best.

Either

Seven's Travels by Atmosphere

or

A Healthy Distrust - by Sage Francis

Those are the only two hip hop albums I own, but they're both amazing.

Notorious BIG - Life After Death

My first, and last, my everything.
Forever.

i also like ready to die by notorious big. all eyez on me by 2pac is good but a little overrated IMO. i think me against the world is the best 2pac album. nas has more lyrical skill than 2pac tho imo.

Dr Dre - The Chronic
Cypress Hill - Black Sunday
Snoop (Doggy) Dogg - Doggystyle

He does but Pac was able to put a lot of raw emotion into his music whereas Nas is almost robotic in going off on things sometimes.
BIG I think I had the best compositions and soothing sounds of them all, though.

Paul's Boutique by The Beastie Boys (if you consider that hip hop) or Straight Outa Compton by NWA

At the speed of life by xzibit.

I only have about two hip hop albums in my collection, so I don't really know.

Whatever My Name Is is on... because I'm addicted to this song, atm.

As far as instrumental hip hop goes, maybe Endtroducing by DJ Shadow.
Rap? Tical 0 maybe, who knows?

Beastie Boys - Sounds of Science.

Everything else is fail ;)

"Rip the Jacker"- Canibus

Mind boggling shit.

2Pac - All Eyez On Me
Even though Me Against The World and 2Pacalypse now are good too. And most of Pacs records are. At least them before September 13, 1996 and Makaveli: The 7 day theory.

cant believe no one mentioned this:

Fear of a Black Planet, Public Enemy

everything else is mediocre in comparison

I use to be real big in to rap. But now it is just kinda.. there. So right now I would not have a favorite rap album.

Fear of a Black Planet, by Public Enemy.

"Bring the Noise" is a kickass track.

NaS - Illmatic, God's Son
Eminem - Slim Shady LP, The Eminem Show
Jay Z - the Black Album

I am not so keen on Tupac or Biggie stuff. I still think you cant beat Eminem on Slim Shady - such amazing lyrics.

i am not sure what album it is on but that song riot! by chino xl and rass kass has some AMAZING lyrics. chino xl is imo the most underrated rapper there is .

Labor Days-Aesop Rock
3 Feet Rising-De La Soul
God Loves Ugly-Atmosphere
The Papercut Chronicles-Gym Class Heroes

Its impossible to say one is better than the other as these all have amazing qualities that much of today's hip-hop/rap is sorely lacking:

In Full Gear, Stetsasonic (actually, this might be the best)
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Public Enemy
By All Means Necessary, BDP (Boogie Down Productions)
Three Feet High and Rising / De La Soul is Dead, De La Soul
The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Slick Rick
Paid In Full, Eric B and Rakim
Holy Intellect / Pure Poverty, Poor Righteous Teachers
To The East, Blackwards, X-Clan

Everything by Tupac. The guy was just so amazingly talented. If any of you have listened to his song "Hail Mary" on the Makaveli album... that was written and recorded in 30 minutes. Unbelievable to me. He wrote and recorded that whole album in a week.

yeah 2pac was pretty good. i liked his emotion. i just think he took beef too far with hit em up. but he was talented. ive heard his freestyles and his flow is amazing.
