Let's make a list of the best HL1 single player mods.

Off the top of my head :

They Hunger Trilogy
USS Darkstar
Redemption
Deliverance
Xeno Project 1 & 2

What else?

I remember something like ... 646 or something ...

Ooh, I've never heard of those! Anyway:

Afraid of Monsters (fantastic horror mod)
Sweet Half-Life
and a bunch of others that I'll post tomorrow.

Erm, the one you play as a vort. And of course, my location.

Someplace Else.

Definately worth a spin. The gameplay and level design isn't too clever, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it. Xen, but done well.

Point of View

Somewhat annoying, cut & paste level design in the early parts, but really fun mod overall. Pretty lengthy too, and very challenging.

Hello community,

on December 21, 2006, our award-winning and critically acclaimed Half-Life? singleplayer modification "Poke646" turns five. Needless to say that our team is still proud on our achievement, how well the game aged throughout the years and how much the fans still seem to love it. However, since we don't expect any birthday presents, we thought it would be a much better idea to celebrate the 5th "Poke646" anniversary by giving the fans a present instead!

So without further ado we present "Poke646: Vendetta", a whole new singleplayer episode developed on Valve's HL1 engine, scheduled for a worldwide release on December 21, 2006. Originally planned but also put on hold in 2002, the project was revived in August 2006. Since then we've been working like crazy on new maps, models, sounds and weapons to continue the adventures of Damien Reeves and bring them to a thrilling end.

Afraid of Monsters ftw!
It's like Max Payne (style) meets Silent Hill (horror).
Freaky monsters, chilling sound track, eerie maps and some unique gameplay.

I just started playing it and I'm very impressed.

Someplace Else. Simply beautifull...

Made by Adam Foster [Minerva Metastasis 1 & 2 for HL2]

Two questions.

First, I remember a mod where you were a janitor in Black Mesa, or something like that. In particular, there was a part where the level flipped upside down, or something... I'm not sure, it was a long time ago. If anyone could refresh my brain regarding that mod, I'd be very grateful.

Second, where the f*ck can I download Heart of Evil? (and yes, I tried Googling it)

Here. (Yes Fileplanet but there's only 1 minute queue)

I vaguely remember a level like that you described, I'll try and see if I can remember the name of the mod.

EDIT: Hmm, could it be Case Closed? Check the screens to see if you remember anything.

Bump in case you didn't get my edit, JNight.

I think they hunger was my favorite out of the few I played.

Tried afraid of monsters... got stuck somewhere in the second level.
Tried azure sheep... got bored.
Tried USS darkstar... don't remember why I stopped.
Tried poke646... I think I lost it in some evil computer crash, but it wasn't that fun to begin with, afaik.
Played through all of somewhere else- I thought it was the training mission :|

I tried someplace else, but got really annoyed. Are you supposed to kill all the enemies (there are like 2000 of them, about 2 mins into the game) with a crowbar?

Zomg, Loke, have mah babehs :D

omg, thanks. :E

If I'm not mistaken there should be a firearm, shotgun IIRC, somewhere near the place were you start, in a big circular room with a bullsquid. It's easy to miss it so you end up wandering about with only a crowbar.

By far, They Hunger Trilogy. I am eagerly awaiting They Hunger 2

I'm further into Afraid of Monsters now. And damn! Once you get outta the Hospital things get even better
