Almost bought a new monitor today without even asking the best and brightest.....what are my best options?

If you are unsure then check out Viewsonic.
Response time, contrast and all that stuff might not be comparable between different brands/models. They might measure them differently.
Example constrast ratio. Supposedly higher is better. But one that says 800:1 contrast ratio might look washed out yet one that says 600:1 might look better. They don't tell you how they measure their specs.

Stores can sell DVI cables for as much as $80 so make sure the LCD comes with one!

the only widescreen for around $200 is one of the acers. i for sure you wont be able to find a 20inch lcd monitor for $200,but you could find a good deal at a store. i bought a 19" gateway widescreen monitor for $220 with a $60 mail in rebate so i got a great deal on that.

I'd recommend buying a USED monitor like the one I have, the Sony G500 21" CRT.

I paid about $100 bucks while it retailed for $1500 - it's ridiculous how cheap CRTs are going for these days with everyone else clamoring over LCDs.

Doesn't bother me though. Clamor I say. Aside from my good friend, I'm the only other person I know who plays Battlefield 2, Half Life 2, and every other game out there in 2048x1536 resolution @ 75 hertz with .24mm aperture grill. But I guess LCDs are good too if you like limited resolutions and a 60 frame per second cap.

someone post one of those witty pwnd pictures.

what the hell are you talking about????? lcds rockkkkk and why would your need more then 60fps shown on the screen???? most crts are 60hz refresh rate.

Top CRTs often have a refresh rate higher than 60hz, and for that kind of money a screen like that is brilliant. However, the sarcastic comment about LCDs makes his point lose its credibility somewhat.

CRT's are too big and annoying, im getting an LCD

We're not saying cake is better than bread are we? CRT will always rule in games.....Sometimes its better to come down to earth and fight your way through like the old fashion way.... bayonet to bayonet :naughty:

Though I have my LCD and loving it, I still have my 17" CRT stashed away in save place just in case my cute LCD farts on me.

I prefer my 19" LCD (hyundai Q90U) over any CRT any time. I love the steady image quality. It feels nice looking at it.
