Clearly, this is a video thread. (Doesn't have to be of a band, it can also be solos and stuff like that. Just in case you're an idiot, I figured that was worth mentioning.)

First I'll start off with some Metallica and Van Halen.

Though I'm not such a big fan anymore, the both times I've seen Metallica where truely amazing experiences. The first time, Download 04, I was a huge fanboy so it was really exciting, and the second time, Download 06, they played Master of Puppets in it's entirety which was pretty mindblowing. I tell you, the Ecstasy of Gold video intro on the big screens that leads into Battery as the band walk on stage still makes my skin tingle to this day.

The Haunted are probably up there as a ridiculously intense live band, and the first time I saw Municipal Waste with Send More Paramedics was INSANE. No barrier, barely any stage, just the band up front playing some kickass thrash punk to one hell of a hectic crowd. There was nothing left of the room after we had finished with it, though the crowd for SNP were crazy too.

Roger Waters in 2007 doing DSOTM was brilliant, too. Huge screen playing all of the original video footage that accompanies most of the songs was playing behind him, and I mean a big, big screen. All the visual and lighting effects were authentic from The Wall-era tours and they were something special. I might see I've any videos on my camera that I can upload.

Peter Gabriel both times... wow. I can't even begin to say how good that guy is except for that even if you're just a fan of Sledgehammer I recommend you go see him for the live show alone.

I agree though, in the first video that intro sent a chill down my spine when I first saw it. i have that DVD btw, great quality video and sound, and there's apparently over 300,000 in the crowd.
 
Will be seeing Metallica this sunday, Reading ftw!

Some of the best live performances I've seen in the flesh would have to be Suicidal Tendencies at Download last year:

For the final song of their set they just got everybody up on stage, the energy was incredible! Security just gave up trying to prevent the stampede in the end and just left people to their own devices, was awesome.

Other worthy mentions would be Mastodon and Machine Head's set, I barely touched the floor for both. QOTSA and Foo Fighters at Hyde Park '06 with appearances from Brian May and Roger Taylor also made for an epic finale to an epic day.

Rock Am Ring is always awesome. I also find that Live Earth and Monster of Rock usually hold the best concerts. Live at Wembley's always good too.

The best performance I've witnessed was in 2003 when i went to see jackyl in Springfield Illinois, it was the best because at a song entitled "You Want It Heavy (I weigh a ton)" the singer came into the crowd and jammed the mic in my face. I was 12 years old at the time, so, naturally... I was scarred shitless. Apparently I sounded like it too, because now when they play that song in this area, the singer does a wimpy version of the lyric I sang to him, and I can't help but think he's mocking me, trying to draw me out. The band is the closest I've ever seen any band to their fans, mainly, I think, because it's a little more intimate when there aren't hordes of them, but that is why they might be poking fun at my timid 12 year old self that had really ****ed up teeth cause I hadn't had braces yet... :D

Oh, and Antipop, personally I like to watch videos than read people's stories. But that's just me. :p
 
I haven't been to many concerts, unfortunately.
But one that stuck out with me was at the Dunkin Donuts center a couple years ago.

It had Evanescence, Finger Eleven, Chevelle, and Avenged 7X.
It was incredible, Evanescence's opening act blew me away... playing Bring Me To Life, everyone sang along and the stadium was filled with an awesome lights display.

I'd describe it more but I mainly went to it for them, so their performance really stuck out.
 
I find that the best thing about live concerts is the way that you can feel the drums and the bass, and the guitars and vocals just scream at you... I love the live show. I'll watch anything if I'm there and it's live. Just because I like the feeling of being kicked in the chest when the drummer hits that bass drum.

I would have to Taking Back Sunday over at Edmonton a few years back or so on their Louder Now tour. They were probably the most dynamic band I've seen yet in the fact that they communicated with the audience a fair amount and had an insane amount of energy, which translated between them and the audience. Adam (Singer)'s stage presence is insane.

There was one band playing on the super small stage at Warped last year, They were some random small time band but their performance was intense. They had this one song called "**** Yeah", and it was just like, old-style punk while yelling "**** Yeah!", and they had us sing along. The crowd to band interaction was intense, and being on a stage smaller then my bedroom helped that a lot too.

Next up would be Nine Inch Nails, on their current tour over at Edmonton, the visual show was absolutely intense, and the music was equally intense, though they really should've turned up Robin Finck's guitar.

Taking Back Sunday's was easily the best performance (Underoath had an intense performance too.). I go to live shows to be able to interact with the band on some level (Even though very small), and I hate it when I see a band who just plays their music and then goes off (I'll have to add Nine Inch Nails did this to my disappointment too), I love it when I see a band that goes on, talks with the audience gets them to do things with the band.

If I wanted to listen to music really loudly I would rather save some money and blast a record really loud then go to a live show that has no interaction between the band and the audience.

RAAAAADIOHEEEEEEAAAAD. Saw them on the 13th with Grizzly Bear opening. It was utterly brilliant- they played all of In Rainbows, The Bends (the song), The National Anthem, Everything in Its Right Place, a beautiful rendition of Kid A, Optimistic, Idioteque, Paranoid Android, Karma Police, There There, an UNBELIEVABLE version of The Gloaming (seriously, they added this amazing guitar part and just rocked it the f*ck out), A Wolf at the Door, and plenty of others I can't recall.

The physical stage was excellent- several screens behind them showing flashes of crazy videos, easily eight different sets of lights illuminating them, a huuuuge LCD banner above the whole thing, and then these HUGE F*CKING ILLUMINATED PILLARS displaying crazy patterns. It looked like some sort of tripped-out chapel.

Aww ****, when I saw at the Manchester Cricket grounds mid June, the entire set was just perfection but me and my mate said if they finished on either Creep, Everything in its Right Place, or Street Spirit, it would have been as close to bliss as you couldnt, but the finished on Lucky (which was still fantastic either way) but I really wanted to hear at least one of those three songs :(
