I've not really got into these but there are so many about I'm just wondering which offers the best features? Which is best and why?

MySpace
Facebook
Virb
Bebo
...any others? My friends seem to be scattered over all of them , so I don't mind which it is, just what's the "best". I'm a n00b when it comes to these.

:bounce:
If you're a hater, I know some are :p what's so bad about them?

I like facebook the most, Myspace is so badly run and its layout is awful. The other two you listed I have never heard of.

MySpace is a mess. It was coded by a team of monkeys.

I don't really use any but some of my friends use Bebo and it seems well made.

Myspace because it's the most popular (thus best for purposes of social networking). Although not being able to comment on your own page is stupid.

I like myspace the best, since it's the easiest to use, and the biggest. It does what's needed of a social networking place.

its just ugly as heck though, and poorly run. It was voted the worst run website to date

Myspace is seriously lacking, but it has the most people on it :)

Facebook has loads of useful little features, but it's a little overwhelming.

I've found myspace the most useful because it has the most people on, however I think it's a bitch to use and is very un-user friendly.

MySpace is pretty good. It's a shame that all my friends type like retards and send chain-mail thus the reason why I never go on there anymore.

Facebook hands down in my opinion.

Anyone I ever need to get in contact with has a profile, and I don't think anyone would disagree that its functionality is miles ahead of Myspace.

Social networking sites never work out for me, I don't know why... prolly because I get bored after 5 mins because no one wants to be my friend :(

The best social networking site is called LIFE

Seriously, go try it out. Just go outside and say hello to the first person that walks by. BAM! You just networked, bish!

Facebook, all my friends are on it and it's by far the easiest to use

I only used Hyves. A dutch myspace ripoff. It's utter pathetic, slow ass shit, and it doesn't work half the time. But all my aquitances are on there so I use it.

If you use one of those to make friends then I pity you.

agreed and agreed. almost everyone in high school/college has it. its also now open to anyone with an email address, just like myspace. unlike myspace you choose a certain network (i.e. Harvard University has a network, Timmy J high school has a network, and the city of Richmond, VA has a network). this makes it easier to meet people near you. its also much more user-friendly.
myspace may have more current users now, but im sure it will be surpassed with in the next year by facebook.

I used to have a myspace but I never use it anymore. Myspace is currently more popular but facebook is expanding like crazy. Its really well run and has some really cool features. A must have for people in uni imo.

Facebook is awesome. I never got into myspace. I'm colorblind and I hate working with colors(I can't match anything). So Facebook is a godsend. Best of all it's so easy to use, much quicker than myspace, it's simply more functional. Plus I can go through and see who is all in my school's network. Making it very easy to find friends, who has facebook, etc..

Myspace is just... ugh... it's overrun by 12 year olds.

interesting video from presentation by a myspace tech guy about their hardware issues

I love you.

I am thinking of heading into a database program (I've already taken a common year IT course) next year, and this is absolutely fascinating. Whenever I am using these social networking sites, I am constantly thinking "Just how the hell did they do this." It's almost to the point where it hurts my head thinking about the research and development that had to have happened.

Again, I love this, and in turn, you.

Look at the first two entries.

Ooooops... Something went wrong. If you are to contact our support, please provide them with the following information Server: web58 ...

Hyves off line due to a technical problem. We'll be back as soon as possible after max. 15 minutes. Sorry for the inconvience.

Haha, glad I could help :) Yeah, the stuff he talks about in that vid is mind boggling. He basically goes through and recounts their trial-by-fire as myspace goes from 0 to 1 million users, then to 6 or 7 million, then 10, 13, etc... Its amazing what it takes to run a website for that many people.

I want to use Facebook, but my entire school uses Myspace. So.

Facebook, it's taken over here and because Myspace blares people's music in my face and is overrun by adverts and malicious users.

The demographics show most users on Myspace are over 35. :|

I love Facebook myself, like others have said, top features. Especially like the ability to move things about and edit them at same time.

another cool thing about facebook is they just added a feature called 'marketplace' which is similar to craigslist... you can sell, buy, or put up notices for items your looking for. pretty cool stuff.

LinkedIn.com

Its a site for professionals and people (in many industries) to network. It doesnt have any useless shit like myspace or facebook has.
