So...what game do you think has the best use of Ragdoll Physics?

I'd say Doom 3.

But I'm willing to bet that Half-Life 2 is going to own all these games in the physics department when it ships. No doubt.

No doubt - psi ops.

It makes ragdolls of other games look like crap. Best rag doll physics system uptill now - less freedom, but really good.

I would either say Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne or Painkiller. But, I choose Max Payne since the bodies doesn't disappear. Supposedly PSI Ops is supposed to make great use of havoc - I still have to check it out.

I think Half-Life 2 is the best, but you can't shoot limbs off people (if you'd want to)

Since its not in the list i'm going for Doom3 - I punched a zombie and he fell down a flight of stairs, it looked so real... it was one of them few precious moments when you sit back in your chair and say "woaaaahhhh cool"

Im sure half-life 2 will deliver lots of these moments :)

Doom 3's ragdoll physics have some clipping issues and they just suddenly freeze in weird positions rather than continuing to slide/settle.

Doom 3 has some serious RagDoll issues. Once a marine keps twitching for 3 whole minutes just cause he landed on a railing. But hats of Max Payne 2. I mean there is no higher satisfaction they shooting a enemy up a wall in super slow motion.

hehe, you complain about a twitching corpse, yet see nothing wrong with shooting someone up a wall?

lol.

My vote goes to Doom 3. Watching a demon ragdoll then vaporize is an awesome sight to behold.

Id have to say MP2 cause they would in always land in unique/intersting/kinda believable ways:).
I'm suprised that everyones picking DOOM3, I mean all the enemies taht have the potential to die in cool positions burn up and disappear before anything intersesting happens.

Dont forget Ungibbable mod..my vote goes for D3!

Here are some examples of things that shouldn't happen with ragdolls (remember, they are all frozen in those positions):

Max Payne two, because in the harder difficulties with all the bullet time and bodies and explosions and blood in the air, you feel like your a war, it's so satisfying.

I've never seen anything go wrong with Doom 3's like that. :O

But my vote goes to Max Payne 2.

Hey, Letters. How's it goin? I've been gone for months, if you haven't already heard.
I see you have changed your avatar since then. Are you over Britney? Or just found someone new...who could kick your ass and Britney's at the same time?

No, no, It was not like it was twitching for the horror of it. Anybody seeing that would know instantly that it was a bug, I wish I had a movie to show it. All I can say is that it's a good thing the monsters dissolved otherwise a lot more bugs in the RegDoll engine would be found

max payne 2, not because they were that great, just because all the otheres suck. I havent tried psi ops though, maybe its good.

In doom3 I got a marine stuck in the floor countless times, it's actually quite funny.

For instance they fly across the inside of the floor and then hit a corner and freeze upside-down.

I voted for Psi-Ops, cause I liked the ragdolls, and head explosions.

i voted MP2. it was very fun and ragdoll seemed believable.

btw is psi ops on pc or will it ever be?

Nope: psi ops is for consoles only currently.

Psi Ops, best use of physics.

Max Payne 2 with a special ragdoll mod, makes the ragdolls more realistic that any physics I have EVER seen.

Which mod is that if you can remember. I'd like to try it out. Anyway, I voted for Psi Ops. I think its the best use of ragdoll physics ever. Although Max Payne 2 was also really nice. Don't they both use the Havok 2 engine?

My vote's for Far Cry. I hated them originally, but after playing with them and the game for some time I can't go back to those featherweight MP2 guys.

Also, max payne 2's ragdolls rather cheat, they go to a 'i've been shot' animation keyframe and then they ragdoll. FarCry's models just go instantly ragdoll, collapsing with whatever momentum or position they had the instant before death. It's hard to notice this difference at first, but it makes standard deaths much more varied for FarCry.

That's usually a good thing.

the pysics for the enemies was ok in far cry, but the pysics for objects was so bad it made me want to kill myself, even when you shot stuff with the rocket launcher it would barely move.

I think the mod was called Raggy Raggers, search for it on google or on the 3DREALMs forum. :)

That mod really shows the power of Havok 2.. The way enemies get killed from being shot here and there is awesome, when they're being blown up by grenades it's beatiful.

Ahoy, good to see you back. :)

And, yeah, I'm taking a little Britney siesta now... :P

I haven't played MP2 yet so I voted for Psi-Ops, I mean it rag-dolls, eben if you arent dead. :E

americas army, just because the death animations were terrible before rag doll.

yeah raggedy raggers or something, I do agree with that.
but out of the box I would have to say PSI-OPS.
cmon they have animated player to ragdoll, getting back up from ragdoll, and it looks fluid and realistic.

Of the games I've played, I choose Max Payne II. Very spectacular (and no dead guys doing yoga if u know what I mean.)

Doom 3 has crap ragdolls, they're way to stiff. Just use the ungibbable mod and try shooting the dead bodies around, they're way too stiff

Well my vote goes to the Hitman Series since the poll question is not what ragdoll is visually more appealing (which all of you seem to be voting on), but what puts them to better use.

The nature of Hitman just needs ragdoll to work effectivly.

If i could vote twice I would also vote Thief since it uses ragdoll with the same concept idea as Hitman.

I LOVE THAT GAME!!

the ragdoll in that game pretty funny... i'd get them to do some pretty interesting things

anyway, i voted for psi-ops cause the rag doll is extremely well implemented

I was torn between Max Payne II and Painkiller. I ultimately went with Painkiller because even though the ragdoll physics in Max Payne II were a sight to behold, everything seemed too light-weight and feather-like.

SO...

Max Payne II has the best looking physics, but Painkiller has the most realistic.

(note: these two and Far Cry are the only games of the above choices I have played)

I got hitman 2....i got to say... When you drag boddies and everything.. it really looks pretty real. Ive not gotten guys in any "Only super super flexible people can do" or any yoga positions or anything. Its pretty nice.

And since all the Hitmans use the same engine ima go with hitman 3.
