Interplay's annual performance report reveals that Bethesda plans to cancel the agreement allowing Interplay to make its Fallout MMO, No Mutants Allowed noticed.

When Fallout 3 developer Bethesda Softworks purchased the Fallout property from Interplay in April 2007, Interplay retained the right to make a Fallout MMO--on condition it raise at least $30 million in funding and enter scale development within 2 years.

Bethesda evidently does not believe Interplay has met these conditions, as the "Legal Proceedings" section of Interplay's Securities and Exchange Commission report shows

it would open the door for Bethesda to do their own Fallout MMO ..frankly I think they're far more capable than interplay

shh don't talk about bethesda here

I might draw attention from the crazies? they'll come anyways

Well it's a shame, because iirc Interplay had gotten at least a few of the original people from the Fallout 1 team, onboard for the Fallout MMO, iirc one of the people who helped write the story for the game.

MMOs take years to develop. if after 2 years they STILL havent gotten their shit together it's a foregone conclusion that they probably never will ...or this could simply be a ploy by bethesda to retain rights to a Fallout MMO

Well, perhaps you have to factor in the fact Interplay has during these 2 years undergone drastic reconstruction to be able to develop the MMO, which costs money, and for all we know they might be ready to start development, but having trouble raising the necessary cash, part of that problem might be the current global economic problems.

ya but that's recent. interplay's problems predate the economic crisis

I never said their problems don't predate the economic crisis, but I'm saying, rebuilding a company takes a lot of time, especially for an ambitious project such as an MMO, and the financial crisis has probably made it a lot more difficult to procure the necessary funding to keep the project going.

Meh.

I've given up on the Fallout Franchise, tbh.

When will the pre-alpha version get leaked, so we can moan about how their Fallout MMO would have been so much better than the one we eventually get?

really? because google says otherwise:

Meh, an FO MMO would never work keeping true to the feel of the original games (haven't played FO3).

While there may have been potential there I shall shed no tears if this has died a death.

Interplay USED to be bad-ass. These days who knows... if they make Descent IV though all I'm saying is it better be ****ing good.

Interplay only published the Descent games, they didn't develop them.

If anyone should get to make a Descent IV it's Volition Inc, if you weren't aware off it, Red Faction 1 started out as a Descent game, hence the destruction engine.

is this where you list the steller AAA games Interplay has released recently?

I'm not gonna lie, Bethesda will do better than Interplay, but just because they do better than Interplay doesn't make it good.

I thought Interplay doesn't exist anymore.

They should do more Baldur's gate since Fallout franchise is pretty much out of their hands now.

agreed, but it still does make it better :E

I don't get the Bethesda hate. FO3 was far from being a bad game.

Having only played FO3, I don't care for the idea of an MMO of it.

I don't hate Bethesda, nor did I ever claim Fallout 3 was a bad game.

However, Fallout 3 when put into perspective with its predecessors, does not fit in well with the main games in my opinion.

Bethesda used to be amazing, then pretty much once they made Oblivion they lost all their credit.. They made some amazing games, they never really cared about mainstream. With Oblivion they completely ****ed over their rep by sacrificing a good game to make money by appealing more to mainstream gamers rather than just making a game to make a good game. And pretty much the same with FO3, although Oblivion is decent and FO3 is good, they are nowhere near as good as they should be. They look really nice though...

The closest you'll get to a Fallout style mmo is 'Earthrise' http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/331

or Fallen Earth http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/126

Bethesda might have the 'Fallout' name but they will never have the talent or most importantly the balls to make anything that lives up to that name...

I hope interplay get back on their feet fully game wise, but personally a Fallout MMO would be a mistake. Unless they have a **** tonne of money, an army of development staff and some truly original and innovative MMO ideas (rather than Post-Apoc WoW) the project would undoubtedly end up going AoC after a few months. Initial large influx of players looking for a change of scene from WoW, then the steady exodus of those same players back to WoW (and their level 70s, guilds, etc) after their months trial once their curiosity has been sated.

I'm not sure I 'get' the Fallout universe anyway, certainly not enough to make me want to break my MMORPG duck. It would be better on the whole without the mutants and super-mutants. They give an interesting, gritty world full of humans screwing each other over this silly, cartoonish edge that ruins it all. If someone does a post-apocalyptic MMORPG, they should do it without all that nonsense.

Fallout 3 had this MMORPG feel to it mind you. Probably why I got 20 hours in and shelved it.
