My BF2 DVD is kinda scratched after sitting in my DVD drive nearly non-stop since I got the game (I don't know why, but it is). Recently I bought myself a DVD burner and I thought about doing a backup copy of the game. The only problem is copy protection. If I copy the DVD and use the copy the game will probably say that the DVD is not in the drive and I would have to use a crack. I don't want to resort to a crack (as to not face any possible consequences). Do I have any other options?

TRY, asking ea for a replace.. as long as you hold the box and the serial number and all that.. they will want a picture of it all, and when they determine if its real or not, they send you a disc.. or thats for the serial key.. i forget but its worth a shot anyways

I am thinking that the quality of the BF2 DVD must be pretty poor, as i've heard of many instances, including mine, where the disc has become scratched and smudged just sitting in the drive. Either that or its a bit thicker than normal or something...

Actually when I look closely at the DVD, it appears to have some scratches inside (within) it. Well, actually not scratches but straight lines forming a pattern.

could just be that, but mine had heaps of smudges on it aswell. Maybe it was like that when i got it? I didn't really check...

Use deamon tools and make an image, I alsmost crack all my sp games and use images for mp games. Just make an image of a few mb then mount it with deamon tools. Just google how to do it.

You mean, burn a backup DVD and then make an image out of it to deceive the DVD-check?

Yep. Make a real backup so you can reinstall, then google how to make an image of a few mb or dload one from sites, then mount that in deamontools, the game will think you have the DVD in the Drive, and you let emulation continue even after closing deamontools.

It's the best option if you worry about getting caught, cause cracks can be easly seen, and in case of bf2 it won't allow you to patch with a crack, but with an image you do not have to worry, nor do you have to aworry about dloading a crack every time a new patch updates teh game.

my dvd is in perfect condition and it has sat in my disk drive almost non stop since the game came out

I've never touched the CDs. I downloaded the game previously, then just went into registry and changed the CD key, and kept using my mini-image to run the game.

yeah, d/l mini-image. or make it. someone here emailed me one. and my dvd stays pristine. actually i should just sell my copy. don't have much time for games anymore it seems.
