First of all, my specs are
Athlon 64 2.2 ghz
2 Gigs ocz dual channel RAM
Nvida GeForce 6800
Windows XP 32 bit
6 Mbs broadband connection from earthlink, running at 2.3 Mbs through a wirless connection.

In counter-strike I get a constant ping of 30; In bf2 I get a ping of about 40-50 when I'm not getting a lag spike.

Here 's what happens:
It pauses like its lagging every 3-5 seconds (even when I have a ping of 20)
My ping spikes from 40 to about 400 every 30 seconds
A connection error happens every 10-15 seconds
Sprinting makes it lag like crazy
It never lags in singleplayer, but it lags in multiplayer even if everything is set to low.
It lags less when I'm driving or riding in a vehicle
It doesn't lag if I'm playing in a server with less than 6 or 7 people

So far I've tried:
setting pb_sleep to 500 (made it worse)
reinstalling the game (made it better for about a minute, then it got worse than before)
setting up a DMZ on my wirless router (did nothing)
deleting my account and creating a new one (did nothing)
manually updating punk buster (did nothing)

umm, help please?

Tried many different servers?

I dunno must be your connection.

Remove your account from your computer & the re-import your account (just don't forget your account name/password). Don't change any settings & test it.

This fixed some major performance issues for me - and then I redid my settings & it worked PERFECT. That's so messed up (I figured this out when I created a new account and performance was relatively phenominal).

Don't think so, according to testmy.net I'm getting 2.3 Mbs. Plus, like I said, I never get a ping higher than 30 in CSS.

Anyway with any luck there's a way to fix this on my end, however I'm begging to wonder if this is EA's fault....

I'm pretty sure that's the problem, I have nearly identical setup as you and I suffer from the same 'Ping Spike' that gives me a Connection Error every ~20 mins (Although I don't have your constant lag problem :|) I've scoured the internet and there's very little help available, most of it's obscure stuff that helps a person or two. However, a lot of people with wireless networks suffers from the Connection Error / ping spike, me included. I tried playing on a friends LAN cable and it works perfect.

The only remotely useful change I made was change my last IP digit for the router to a different digit (from 2 to 8) . I went from disconnecting every couple mins to now 20+, so that helped a bit.
