Ok, I have been looking around alot and I have yet to find my answer so I'm just going to ask. This is a new card for me, the rest of my computer specs are:

1GB RAM
K7S5A (AGP4X)
winxp pro
latest vc drivers

I have read about the old FX cards you have to trick HL into thinking they are an ATI card. Do I have to do the same. I am getting completely crap frames in CS:Source, like under 30. HL2 was better, but I was still getting a lot of chopping when I turned around quickly. I can run Doom3 with no frame loss, I realize that the 4X is probably troubling me, and I hope to be able to upgrade my MoBo soon, but for now I figure I should still be able to run these games without trouble. Thanks for any help.

It will definately be the x4 that your motherboard has. I have a BFG 6600GTOC on a x8 motherboard and I have a significant frame boost in HL2 compared with my old 9800SE. Choppiness in CS:S cannot be entirely blamed on your graphics card settings, but can sometimes be down to the bot AI (which takes a lot of CPU power), that is if your playing with bots, and your internet speed or server latency.

By the way, welcome to our network

I used to have the same motherboard you have, if you have money upgrade to a newer board that cupports the CPU you have. Or if you have more money get a board that supports 64 bit CPU's and the accompanying CPU

This is the motherboard that I have had since last christmas

Is there a board you could recommend? I found this one at the computer store I use. It's super cheep (why I looked at it) although I'm sure this is without processor. What FPS do you get if I may ask? I used to play source with my 5200fx and at low res it ran pretty well. I was amazed that I couldn't seem to do any better with this card.

Asus A7V400-MX AMD

Chipset: KM400A
Form Factor: Micro ATX
FrontSideBus: 266/400
RAM Support: up to DDR333
CPU Socket: Socket-A
On-Board:
Integrated Audio
Integrated Video
10/100 LAN
AGP8X
USB2.0 Connections

BTW, thanks ;)

Well, I guess I could spend a couple hundred (Canadian) I play star wars galaxies too, and I'd like to be relatively up to date for things coming out. I'd like to get an idea of the different levels of cost and what you get so that I can try to price things myself as well. So any suggestion from you would be great, then I can at least compare others to it.

Could you tell us a bit more about your computer? To make sure you don't encounter problems when putting everything in your new motherboard.
