Big Installation Problem

Ok...I bought the DVD-Rom when i went on holiday, i get home, try to install it, and i get this error:

If anyone can help, it would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Theres no way i can take it back now ....So I hope someone can help!!!

This is probably the same bug again. The fix is to select to do a full installation and include Counterstrike: Source.

I got both those errors during my install as well. One difference which may be important is that I have the 5 disk CD version.
Either error would occur at various points during the install - disk 2, 3, or 4.
I was using my DVD reader for for the install. I was getting nowhere - including making sure I was installing the Counterstrike part of the program as well.
I went into the forums and found others with similar problems. They attributed the problem to a less than "speedy" optical drive when reading the files. I switched to my CD-RW drive and the install went ahead without any other problems. I have no idea why one worked and the other didn't.
Some of the others in the forums weren't so lucky. Some had to buy and install new drives or use an external to complete the install.
Incidentally, the DVD drive works just fine for running the game itself.

I also am receiving both errors, with the five disk cd version, exactly as all_steamed_out described it. I am using a cd/burner to do the install, and have tried taking the game back and swaping it for another copy but still I am having the same error. My cd drive works flawlessly for everything else but hl2. I emailed valve about it and they said to make sure cs:source was selected, and I have made sure it is selected and still have the same problems. Any light shed on this yet?
