Ok so I have my new motherboard(A8N-SLI), my new power supply(Truepower 2 550Watts), a old gfx card(Radeon 7k PCI to make sure it runs and set it up till I get more money), a new case, Amd Athlon 3500+(Retail).

Ok I plug everything up into my motherboard get all my cd-roms set up, floppy and HD.
Now I make sure on the power supply it's switched to 115V, that it has power, and the power cord is plugged in.
A little light on the bottem of my motherboard lights up to show that it has some power.

I click the on button, the fans start moving for less than a second then they stop. The manual says wait 30 seconds, I wait 3 minutes nothing at all happens.

I should have everything pluged in properly.
Anyway, I do have a guy who made tons of computers coming over later. Just wanting to know if anyone here had any help.

btw pci cards have problems with pci-e mobos ive tried on my friends computer so u should just save up for a pci-e gfx card

Am....
"Radeon 7k PCI to make sure it runs and set it up till I get more money"

yes i no that but pci cards have problems with running in pci-e mobos that what im trying to say so u will just have to wait to get some money sorry

Make sure your CPU fan plug and if your Powersupply has a fan plug make sure they are plugged into the motherboard. It won't start for safety reasons without those plugged into the motherbaord where it can be monitored. Also make sure your GFX card and memory are seated tightly.

Are you getting any beeps?

No beeps, ill check my gfx card and memory.
My CPU fan is plugged in. I'll check the power supply cords for anything to do with a fan, though the bottem fan(didn't check the others) did spin on it.

Thanks, be back with results soon.

Nothing worked.
No beeps, my gfx card is in solid, my memory is in nice.

The problem isn't the graphics card running. The problem is NOTHING running. If I take the pci card out nothing happens. The BIOS dosn't start up, no fans spin(except for the very start), nothing at all happens with or without the graphics card.

If you haven't done this already...
Cut the PSU power.
Press the power button.
Restore the PSU power.
Try to turn it on.

Also, I don't think the fans would spin if this were the case, but check and make sure the clear CMOS jumper is set correctly. The pins are below and to the left of the SATA ports. Normal operation is to the left (pins 1,2), clear is to the right (2,3).

Will check.
It's on Normal Operation, do you want me to clear it(though I can't figure out how to get that bettery out there)

Nope

Try unplugging everything thats not required, like usb ports on teh case and on a pci backplate that i know you get with that asus board, the floppy disc drive etc. You should have just enough to get the pc to start. That will hopefully eliminate any faulty/incorrectly plugged in componants.

It sounds similar to a problem my mate had when he got his new case. He had plugged in the front usb connectors incorrectly and the fans would start for less than 1 second then it would do nothing. Just unplugged everything except the gfx card, 1 hd and optical drive and it started up. Then we just started to plug in everything else until we got to teh usb ports and it wouldn't start again so we tried plugging it in a different way and it worked ok. Hope this helps.

Hmm, no beeps, not good.

Check to see what the mobo manual says about that.

Most motherboards will beep once every time they recieve power to signal that all hardware is functioning correctly.

Been doing that :(.

I was thining about doing that, ill do it right now.

The manual says if no beeps it failed power-on test, and that I should check my jumper connections and settings. Which I am rather confused by.
If that is chagning the jumper cap fro 1-2 to 2-3 for a few seconds then changing it back, well first it says I need to remove the battery...which I tried...and im unsure how without breaking anything.

Just tried, :( nothing.

btw, does PWR_FAN on the motherboard mean anything? Just the name confused me.

I am going to go back and reconnect everything step by step with the manual. Hopefully that will fix it.

Clear the CMOS - you don't appear to have done that yet.

If not, test the motherboard, I personally would say it's dead.

K, but how exactly?
It says take the battery out and switch the thing to pins 2-3 from 1-2, but...umm... I can't get the battery out...do I have to take it out?

Ok, now this REALLY sucks.
So I cleared the CMOS and the fans started going, then I see a little light like a fire on the bottem right corner of the motherboard, i unplug it quick and errr. I'll replug it in to make sure it works but sometime got fried there.
Anyway, at least next time i know exactly what to do.

Anyway, Thanks.

It works fine, what got fried was the orange game port thing. I just can't use that which is fine.

Thanks :)

Wow um, I would send the motherboard back.

But just a question, you moved the CMOS jumper back to pins 1-2 before starting your pc back up, and you shut off your psu before switching the pins right?

I don't know too much about this, but my guess is, if you indeed DID short your cmos and turn your pc on, the power going to it caused a major short circuit, and fried something on the same line as it, the gameport.

And well, if you didn't leave it short when you powered your pc on, then in general, i'd say that motherboard that fries something on random is a motherboard I wouldn't trust.

Yeah. Also the motherboard actually looks fine just the gameport connector dosn't.

Well it is working better, but if I can't get it to fully work I will probably send it back.

New Problem:
Ok all the fans spin now :). Though nothing happens. No beeps or anything. I'm guessing something is still messed up. Any ideas? The fans spin very nice, the computer goes...it says if nothing happens in 30 seconds check jumper connections\settings or contact your retailer.
:|. One step closer, still so far away.

Looks like you've got a DOA motherboard on your hands.

Im contacting asus, and I will try and get a replacment for it.

Anyway, thanks.
