BigDog... (or Hunter from HL2 with an extra leg?)

I remember reading about these once. They plan to use them to transport military equipment to the front lines, I think.

Very, very awesome stuff this is. I've seriously never seen any robot with this much mobility and versatility in my life.

It's so creepy when he kicks it and it regains its balance.

i don't know why, but from 0:09 it looks like something from a surrealistic nigthmare

Yep, really awesome. I think I might apply to work at Boston Dynamics after graduating from college.
I'm not sure what sort of military application this thing will have but its awesome all the same... :p
Quite clearly stealth, what with the virtually complete silence it travels with.

It's main role will be carrying the packs for small squads of soldiers in urban areas or over relatively rough terrain. It can also transport equipment and supplies in densely foliated areas, inside buildings and tight urban centers without risking human lives.

BigDog will serve as similar role as other, larger autonomous robots in transporting supplies into battle along with infantry. It will simply be a small, cheap alternative. BigDogs could also be mounted on larger, wheeled robots and then sent out into the battlefield to resupply entrenched troops-- again, without risking human lives.

I tell you, if I was an entrenched soldier waiting for resupply in the middle of the night and that thing came bounding towards me I'll probably end up shooting at it. The way it moves... thats terrifying. :|

Yeah but it's bound to have a GPS transmitter, so its not like it would take you by surprise... Not like you wouldn't hear it coming with that motor sound it makes anyways.

If they can quiet it down that thing would be so awesome. Looks like it's come a long way since the last time I saw it. Good to know it can travel pretty fast when it needs to.

Over flat surfaces :p

But then again, as the research advances and several improvements are made to the current design/technology it can be very useful, if safety regulations are met, as a replacement for wheelchairs :bounce:

But for some reason I felt kinda sorry for that thing when it was struggling to stay up.

That thing scares the shit out of me..:|

When it was slipping on the ice, though, I busted out laughing since I was so insanely impressed.

anyone ever see the little dog? it's damn cute

If I was an enemy and I came across one of these I would strap a bomb to it and let it carry the bomb back to base.

I can see it being used in stealthy operations.

ZZZZZzzzzzZZZZZ

...or in a next Silent Hill.

Oh and I loled at this:

It's kinda cute, really.

That's Whegs, developed by Virginia Tech as a reconnaissance robot. It can travel in water or over land. They programmed another one that has antennas and can sense the size of gaps before entering.
