Answering questions via the 'Cult of Rapture' (Bioshock's community site), a 2K Games representative has confirmed that Irrational's under-sea epic will not feature a multiplayer component. The developers felt that multiplayer "would have compromised the story." Whether that compromise would have been the result of insufficient resources or simply (a fear of) disparate playing experiences is unclear; it could have been both. Despite plans to offer downloadable content, it seems as if Irrational has no intention of adding a post-release multiplayer update (? la Valve's Half-Life 2: Deathmatch release).

2K Games also revealed that there are currently no plans for a Bioshock 'Special Edition' box set or pre-release demo.

Is there any need of multiplayer? eH...? I think no!

is there a release date for this ? they have the preview box things in eb already. :o

No multiplayer?! System Shock 2 had multiplayer and that made it even more fun, and if I remembered, the multiplayer part was released in a later patch for it.

I don't like where this is going...

I don't mind no-multiplayer myself, but I do think they should have a demo, if not pre-release then ASAP after release :(

Meh this game looks like just another FPS to me. But now one without at MP component.

Believe you me: this isn't 'just another FPS'. Read some previews, watch some vids, and you will find out.

Doesn't look like it would've been that fun with MP anyways.

I've known this for a while and I don't care at all. Bioshock will be great. Everyone remembers a great SP experience.

the mp games are = crysis, BF2142, tf2, css, QWET, UT07, BF2.

Frankly, I don't care if this game got it or not.

This is one of those games that I am going to get without reading any reviews or anything further on it at all actually. Everything up to this point has been nothing short of spectacular, so I can't wait for it. And MP for this wasn't something with which I was ever concerned.

I'm not bothered with that it doesn't have a multiplayer, I got Left 4 Dead for that. Hopefully this and Alan Wake will satisfy my singleplayer needs.

It's nice to hear they're dedicating themselves to SP. I expect good things out of this game. And honestly, who needs to play a demo before deciding to buy this game?

Meh, good. Really can't picture multiplayer working with this, whether versus or coop. And as long as the reviews are decent I'll be grabbing a copy, so meh to demo. And collector's editions always suck anyway...

The MP would have been horrible anyways.

Co-op maybe, but Deathmatch? No, I really don't think so.

I would like co-op, but it could be done in a mod I guess. SS2 co-op was basically a mod.

People fail to understand what this game is trying to do. This isn't another Multiplayer game with a single player campaign on the side. This is purely a single player game and hence would play terribly in an MP environment.

System shock was a better game by yourself than with a mate playing with you I'll say that much. Having two guys running around just ruined the atmosphere.

I remember when games didnt have multiplayer... didnt make em any less fun
:|

Meh, I'd like to play this game in coop mode.

atmosphere shmatmosphere tbh.

Coop mode is more work, ironing out balance issues, making it work, making it fun, working on net code, etc etc etc. Not to mention how they'd manage save games - your character gets more powerful with upgrades and better weapons, and of course it's a progressive story based game (albeit hopefully an open-ended one as it's touted to be). So say one guy decides to join a game with his friend, who's just started, yet the first guy is nearly done and has an uber-powerful character with all the best mods and guns. Easy mode anyone? Way too much balancing and shit to be fun... best left to a mod or patch later when they have the time to make it good.

I'll personally be very happy with just one great singleplayer experience from this.

I lost my hype for this game after I saw the first gameplay trailer thingy. I'm not sure it'll be that great.

It only says no pre-release demo, not post-release.
