Nice picture!
How do people take a photo of a lightning strike? They happen so fast.

I thought you meant Birmingham, UK then. We had a HUGE storm on friday, and there was a tornado just down the road from me. Pretty scary.

With a slow shutter speed and fairly frequent lightning you can be sure to get some in :)

I thought he meant UK Birmingham as well, it's been pissing it down over here >_>

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrmingham...bahaha

Uhh i mean...thats bad.

And yeah ive also always wondered how people take lightning shots. Light sensors?

With a slow shutter speed

that only works at night, if you do it during the day you're picture looks like this:

I just got lucky, this lighting strike was part of a bunch of strikes that hit one after another. It probably took me 5-10 minutes to finally catch one.

Not entirely true. If it's not high noon, and you have a fairly nice lense that'll do a nice and small minimum aperture size, you can crank the F stop way up to compensate for the excess light coming from you leaving the shutter open for an extended period of time.

Interesting picture btw, it looks as if the whole shit cake is about to culminate into a hurricane. Look at the edges of the storm.

Really nice snap...

Makes me want to spend my savings on a camera.

the camera is just my point and shoot canon sd700...I can't really control all that, which is why if I do a long shutter shot it turns out all white.
