The Catholic Bishop of Wollongong is appearing in a YouTube video warning parents and adults of the dangers the internet poses to young people.

In the video, which runs for just under four minutes, Bishop Peter Ingham compares the internet to a theme park with good and bad elements.

The video is designed to accompany a letter from the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, which explains what it sees as the benefits and dangers the internet poses, as well as tips for allowing children to use the net safely.

Bishop Ingham says the video and letter points out both the negative and positive features of the internet.

"In the space of a couple of decades the internet's changed our lives in extraordinary ways," he said.

"The church is just trying to say, 'look there's a lovely thing here that's very positive, and yet it's also got its nasties'."

And?

He's kinda right. There's pictures and videos on the net that kids probably shouldn't be looking at...
Would you like your little kids/nephews/neices/cousins to click a disguised link to 2girls1cup?
It's not like he's saying there are no benefits, or that it's all bad.

He's right. And he's not blaming immoral degenerate atheists.

yes yes...i agree but it's kinda ironic don't you think.

If anything it's a disguised effort to push for internet censorship, maybe. Parents need to supervise their bloody kids.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, Stern's ad hominem arguments aside :p

Yes, because the Church's sole purpose is to control you

yes pretty much ..from when to kneel to when to stand, back to kneeling and then standing, more kneeling and then standing followed by saying random words not once not twice but thrice

amen amen amen

you have to see the irony in your statement

I do, but I also realize that these actions have purpose and meaning to them which are conducive to an attitude of worship towards Christ.

yes but that attitude was imposed by the church ..living a life that is conducive to whorshipping christ would mean giving up pretty much every worldy pleasure and those that you didnt give up you'd have to in moderation

But that attitude is imposed by the church because that is it's purpose - to point individuals towards God.

And why does worshipping Christ mean you must give up pleasure - I mean where have you gotten this idea?

by living according to their pov? not christ's? ..even though that pov is at times contradictory or hateful or just plain wrong?

church? masterbation? pre-marital sex? hell most pleasures are covered by the seven deadly sins

Define pleasure, Stern.

Of course he isn't just blaming atheists. He's a Catholic. He'd blame Protestants and other heathens too.

The guy is being very reasonable and moderate.

*Cough* Antitheist Circle Jerk *cough*

Don't start them off, they're semi-restraining themselves for once :p

Pleasure is waking up after an exhausting first night with a beautiful, passionate...mass murderess.
