Over the weekend, on the spur of the moment I decided to launch a system to allow BitTorrent downloads to distribute the Day of Defeat: Source videos myself and Suicide42 created during the advanced review of the game.

This thread is really to collate your feedback on what you thought of the system.

Attached to this thread is a poll for you to rate the overall effectiveness of the system, however below are a few more specific bits of feedback I'd like:

1) How was the overall speed of the downloads?
2) The downloads were released on Sunday, are they still functioning correctly for you at the moment?
3) Would you like to see more files released in this fashion?
4) Can you recommend any more improvements to the system?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

1) Fast
2) I believe so
3) Yes
4) Allow me to get all files ahead of everyone else cause I am the best

I love the bittorrent. It was fast did not require a login or wait times. Do it more often.

I do believe i missed this opportunity, i'm sadened to say, so i will not vote, but i'll answer your questions.

1) yes
2) 1 and a half
3) Wednesday preferably, Thursday maybe.
4) Short Recoil

1 - Fast 50kb/s +
2 - "29/9/2005 01:07:56 - Unable to connect to tracker"
3 - Sure.
4 - Maybe a downloads page on the site listing the files + seeds/leechers etc.

1 - On a 512 connection i was getting 50 - 60 kbs so good in my book
2 - Yes
3 - Deffinatly, i use bittorrent regulary and its speed is good
4 - A good directory to what is available on download

Cheers Chris for the link, right now it's not downloading properly

1) its stuck on 1kb/s
2) I guess not?
3) Sure, assuming its worthwhile content (guides to stuff, etc CB's grav gun jumps and stuff like that!)
4) Make it work always?

1. Pretty slow, 70 kb/s, but Bittorrent is always slow for me.
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No

So still working for you?

The Bittorrent system currently relies on me having to keep the upload diaglog box open to work effectively. A lot/All of you might find that you're unable to download any of the files.

I'm currently looking into other systems that will help us do it efficiently.

There's only one server. Nah, it'd still take too much bandwidth and the forums would slow down a lot.

1) Bitlord is good for speed, usually depends on how many ppl continue to seed after the d/l is complete.
2)yes
3)Definitely
4)By recommending not to use port 6881, its cap'd. A guide on port forwarding or a link to a site explaining it. Compression, Winzip/Winrar.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but my opinion is valuable and always right.

I can't stand bittorrent. I have never been able to download a damn thing through it, and have tried things like bitlord, bitman, bit girl, and stickabitupyourbit. It just sits there staring at me saying "downloading or transferring or what ever", not realising that I can see there is no downloading being done in my firewall icon, and it is showing 0kb/s 0%downloaded. (Yes, I have allowed it full access to the net in my firewall.)

Why oh why don't we all just use normal p2p networks, or just rightclick-save as.

F*&#%^#ing torrents! :frown:

So, what are you wearing, anyway?

BT is the only way to download. I use bitlord and have no problems. I havent got anything from this site though......not yet!!

If you had a brain you'd realise why torrents are good and what makes them different than DDL. Either you are using torrents that noone is seeding anymore, or you do indeed have some kind of software blocking it.

Now stop being pretentious and a whiney little bundle of rage and ignorance.

If you're ready to get over yourself, try downloading Azureus (It's what I use, excellent program) and get yourself a torrent you know that works, and has seeds.

70kb/s?!?!? CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY, I'M LUCKY IF I GET UP TO 4kb/s!!! INGRATE!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE DIAL-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I acted like a total asshole to Shasta  I'm honestly shocked at myself. Sorry mate :O

Um, as a random note, to people getting slow speeds, my brother recently told me that I had to forward this one port on my router for Azureus to work properly. If you know Azureus, each torrent has a face whose mood depends on how the torrent is operating. If you notice that it's never green, you probably need to open up that port on your router. I don't know what it is offhand, but I'm sure some googling can help you.

you just need to play around with the port settings in the NAT/Firewall test of Azureus. Try typing in different port numbers and testing them and when you get an OK! message then you're on to a winner. I just tried a few at random and you usually get a good port within 3 or 4 efforts.
