This application is doing my nut in.

I'm currently downloading a video at a ... adequate speed, but I can't seem to either prevent people from downloading the video from me or limit the bandwidth that goes to uploading. I use the "BitTorrent EXPERIMENTAL download client" which lets you adjust the bandwidths but the upload is always in proportion to the download so yes, I'm downloading at 25kb/sec, but I'm uploading at 15kb/sec. I just wanna download at 40kb/sec :(

Any ideas, any other clients I can try?

That is taking the piss now.

Tried that client

I'm downloading at 2k/sec and uploading at 14k/sec.

Yeah...but the whole idea is to share the love.
Trying to turn off uploads is a wee bit selfish.

Oh I don't mind sharing, however it would be nice if I could download a little bit faster than 2k/sec and upload a little bit less than 5k/sec.

Actually, I just help myself sleep at night by thinking that if I download the file at 144kb/s and upload 13k then I seed for the whole night and most of the day it kind of makes up for it.

Well it's probably the file you're trying to get: how many seeds do you see? click on advanced and see if others are uploading more than they are downloading. The client works fine but you have to get the files while they're hot.

Oh wait there might be another problem, I don't think you are an idiot Chris D but I have to ask: is the light yellow? if yes that means there's a good chance your firewall is blocking some connections.

There's loads of seeds gone now so it's not doing much at all anymore.

Oooh... I'm an idiot.
Yes it's yellow.

Thing is though, if I take the Windows firewall off I get the blasterworm virus affecting me again. I've installed the patch and everything but the only thing that keeps it away is the firewall.

Thats not a light, its a swolen testicle

Damn, you need that firewall then.

There might be a workaround, look in your firewall options and try to allow the ports that might blocked. But I don't think BT uses any ports. Just try to give BT all access :)

Ok, green light now... but still... upload is 110% higher than download :(

www.netlimiter.com great application, you can limit bandwidth usage for ANY application, its great for slowing down the bitorrent leeching.

Um... uploads don't affect download speed unless you're on a half duplex line and you're maxing it out.

When BT is slow its more likely its because of people who cap their upload speed. :D

Or the seeds are all half way round the world.

yeah, its horrible when you're uploading at full speed on adsl and your download speed dies, heh. but thankfully my isp increased my upload speed by 200% and now i can upload at max speed and still download "fast enough" heh.

Bittorrent sux because you have more uploaders and your connection is going down more and more. You're a lucky man if your download is 20kbps or more.

I'll be a lucky man if it gets above 0.0k/sec.

I think I'll just buy the DVD again next time.

I'm not normally into piracy or anything but I just wanted to redownload a movie that I did have on DVD (and paid for obviously) but the DVD got too damaged to work. Sort of justifies it in my mind.

Damn u lot with adsl im chugging along with my 56k here, i have a fit when i get more than 3kb/s ,lucky buggers.

Chris_D,

I have a Bittorrent on my laptop, I cannot download any files .tor becuase of the stated speed max of 30K. In my university they have 8MB connection and upload of 3MB I can download 2GB Movie in 2 Hours At speed of 1000-1645KB and uploading of exactly 2.8MB. So to sum up if you have a very fast connection like universities do try to download it there.

bittorrent works a charm for me, i don't know what you're complaining about. but if you're behind a router you will want to set DMZ to your network IP. (eg 192.168.1.1)

Try the Azureus Bittorrent client (google it) It's great for me. You cna limit the # of uplaods as well as max upload speed. I also usally get between 50Kb/s and 130Kb/s (on cable) if there are more than 10 people online (not jsut seeds).
