What a wonderful day it will be when those great guys working on Black Mesa Source finely release it... It'll be Half-Life, but a HL2 quality Half-Life. I think that this mod will get more recognition then any other mod, and may be, if not more popular then Half-Life 2 itself.

I don't know about you guys, but although Half-Life 2 was a great game, I couldn't help but feel let down for it to be a sequel to what I knew Half-Life to be. Sure the story line was good, the physics were great, and the graphics were amazing - But the story just wasn't what I would have guessed it to be for a squeal to Half-Life.

I mean honestly - You go from agreeing to work for the G-Man - Only to wake up 20 years later in a totally new universe? No longer do you get the old feeling of being a scientist, or that familiar scent of labs filled with alien creatures running amongst the green radiation... No. Now you are in a militarized environment overrun by grunt like authority. *tear* - No more Gargs or Bullsquids... No more Hound Eyes or Alien Grunts. No more Black Mesa. No more XEN - Just the combine and a few stray alien races running round still. I don't know, it just didn't feel like the old Half-Life I came to love. Sure HL2 was a great game, but it has gone in a totally new direction to the original.

Don't get me wrong though... The combine are very very awesome. All that aside HL2 is great... I wonder what HL3 will bring many years into the future?

Honestly, after Hl, OpFor and Blue Shift how long did you expect Valve to use the same settings and enemies?

It's still the same universe, but Valve has moved on and I'm glad for that.

Hmmm...well, don't forget that Counter-Strike began life as a mod and went on to become one of the most popular computer games ever.

You better not say you miss race-x. Trust me, it's for your own health...*whispers* Darkside...

MOREpopular then Half Life 2 itself.

......yea right:hmph:

Half-Life 2 quality? We'll see when it's released.

Point taken... How long will they fondle with the idea of the combine though? It's been HL2, HL2:EP1,HL2:EP2, all centred round the combine and they've still only released a few new monsters in with those expansions and close to 0 new weapons. If HL went from XEN - To HL2 with the combine - I wonder what HL3 will bring us?

Looks pretty cool already... I'm actually wondering weather it'll do the original HL some source justice.

Black Mesa is dead, however they will release the Source code.

Why the hell would you want the sequil to be just like the original? How repetative. The only reason the HL2 setting hasen't gotten old yet is because they constantly keep changing it, and they are releasing it in episodes rather than another big game.

/cries

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It can't be true! It just can't be! Why...

... and the part of me that wanted Black Mesa more than anything else in the world just died. Rest of me can put this tragedy out of mind.

Black Mesa is dead!

Unfortunately, this is a sad realization. ;(

its not dead, or at least its really hard to tell. they've put about as much time and work in to it as they have a retail game would have had. The only difference is they dont put out as much media as a retail game would. For the longest time every one thought they where dead, then they came out with a new media release ( last Christmas ) and every one was like : "OH they are still working on it ) and I've gotta say it looks really good. I wouldn't confirm its dead just yet. They have put so much time and work into it, i think it would be a sin to just stop now.

they have just been busy but it doesnt mean the mod is dead.

there is still hope!!!

Aw geez... I already slit my wrists and ODed on sleeping pills... now this is what you'd call an awkward situation. I have a Band-Aid somewhere around here... by my bed... my soft, comfortable b...

Ok ok... Sheeesh. Keep your hat on yo. I get where your coming from.

Everyone knows you can't beet an original though. That's why when Black Mesa Source comes out it's going to be awesome.

HAHHAHA how can you believe some users comments on news site. I'll go write "All HL2 mods cancelled lulz!" and everybody believes.

He's right guys... Unless you show me proof that the Black Mesa team has officially said "Um yeah, we've made pretty much remade all the Half-Life levels and remodeled the characters... I know our mod looks absolutely awesome, but ahhhh, we've decided to drop it for some unearthly reason we can't think of."

Black Mesa will come out soon, they have put too much work into it. I'm guessing it will be here before the end of next year at least. The only levels I haven't seen media for is Xen. I mean come on guys, they won the most anticipated mod of the year award... Why would they give up on something like this when so many are counting on them to go through with it?

That's because they have decided shift from the mundane idea that more weapons a better game make. Half-life is good, but it's not a patch on HL2 or the subsequent Episodes. The Combine are around to stay, in exactly the same way the Vortigaunts and other elements of HL are still kicking. I'm not too interested in Black Mesa simply because it's a remake, which have never had my interest. If I wanted to play Half-life 1 I'd go back and I'd play Half-life 1.

Black Mesa isn't dead, but apparently some troll wants people to think it is.

Dont much care for it, it will hardly be the same quality as Half-Life 2 rofl. I enjoyed Half-Life 1, but in my opinion, I doesn't come close to exellence of Half-Life 2 and the episodes.

Moving onto the Combine and City 17 was a move I could have never seen coming, brilliantly done. And please shut the hell up about more weapons and enemies, I mean have around 9 weapons in our arsenal and there is around 21 different enemies that opnely engage us battle from Half-Life 2 onwards, 23 if you include the scanners and grubs. WHY on earth do we need more, the resistance has to steal their weapons and sometimes make thier own, so that why they are limited, the Combine a self-suffienct force, developing less weapons but allowing each to serve mulitple purposes.

black mesa source wont be to exactly what hl1 was.

i believe they are adding items of info we have learned from hl2 and the episodes.

No new weapons in the Episodes? How about logs + hunter's flechettes (new techniques with the grav gun), strider busters (again grav gun), or Alyx in Lowlife (new gameplay with the flashlight). (Not mentioning new generic physics objects, because they all work the same way.) They're adding new offensive capabilities to what you already have rather than literally expanding your arsenal.

i agree with you 100%.

but most people consider a new weapon a new gun the you get.

Exactly.

From what I've seen of BMS it looks pretty impressive (though the exterior terrain textures look like they still need some work), however I can't help but be concerned as to how the team intend to tackle the delicate matter of managing the shift between HL and HL2 from generic scientists to actual ones.

I was pleasently suprised how it looks in the teaser trailer, they seem to be doing a really good job.

Don't you think it gets a little repeated when you have the same weapons over and over again? And sure theres plenty of enemies - The Metro Cop, the Combine Soldier, and the Combine Elite - Thats 3 enemies which are pretty much exactly the same, just with different skins. And you fight the same ones throughout all the episodes... Maybe Half-Lifes military and aliens were just more interesting?

I'm sticking with HL... It was a great game - it started HL2 ppl. Without HL there would be no G-Man... Without HL there would be no Gordon. To re-make the original in as good-a-quality as it should have been when ported, to re-make it with the source engine, is only showing the original the respect it deserves.

HL2 is still great though...

That has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

And no, because the gameplay is so diverse that it doesn't need to hinge on the idea of more weapons. Combat is really only a factor of HL2.

Well to my mind what we have is a very real-feeling world, it has it's own rules and boundaries but still very real. The important thing to me is that the storyline remains true to itself and the the people involved remain believable. Other titles can focus on selections of flashy-looking guns as much as they like but if HL suddenly dropped in a new arsenal then for me it would run the risk of stripping itself of all believability. This is a world gone swirling down the toilet and it's inhabitants vainly trying to swim against the flow. They don't get a vast selection of weaponry and what they do get is old or stolen or cobbled together through sheer ingenuity.
