I think I know what the problem is... I installed the cracked Vengeace release of HL2 and then after I bought my original I installed the original over the cracked version. That probably 'cause the problems... I should've unstalled the cracked version first. But what annoys the hell out of me now is that I have to update Steam and HL2 every time I reinstall them. It's extremely annoying... so I was wondering if there was a place that I could possibly download a compressed file that contains the latest update instead of having to sit and wait for it everytime I reinstall...

What I've done now is uninstall Steam and restart steam... It's updating itself atm... but I'm probably going to have to uninstall HL2 as well... which'll mean I'll have to uninstall Steam again if I want to remove all traces of the cracked version from my computer.

Why did you buy the original for?

anyway, try deleting everything. Or reformat HDD.

The main reason was that I was sick of trying to fix everything so that i can run the mods. And besides the game is worth buying. Anyway... Things work now... Though it still takes up to 5 hours to do the install with all the updates being downloaded. I left CS:S to download it's updates through the night and it just finished this morning... and that SUX! Isn't there some place I can download the updates to my computer and keep them there? *crosses fingers*

Well... anyway... I guess I'm not going to be able to mess around with the mods until after the test that I'm writing tomorrow... but then I'm writing one on Friday as well... *shoots Steam* Bastards... How can the make an installation that takes 12 hours or more!?

Yeh, I think there's a backup option somewhere in Steam that you can either burn on CD's or on a DVD.

EDIT : Right, found it. Go to the 'Play Games' tab and right-click on the game you want to back up. A new window pops up. Press the last button below. Now select the game you want backed up. Press 'next' and go trough all the other steps.

Sweet!

Thanx so much man. :cheese: That helped a lot... Interesting that I hadn't noticed it before. :p Now all I need is a Resident Evil mod for HL2 and my life will be heaven... :)
