Blade runner....mod?

I wanted to ask anyone if they would be interested in doing a blade runner modification for HL2, at this time I have no plans so I am not recruiting, just taking a survey. If I get enough positive feedback I will be writing up a story and a feature list, and this community will be the first to hear of it! Please respond with a yes/no and reason.

http://www.brmovie.com for information on Blade Runner.

That'll be interesting I guess. You'd have to do it right though.

I did actually quite enjoy the game that was out back in the 90s.

No, because there are already too many cyberpunk-themed HL2 mods in pre-development for another one. Also, I beleive a number of mods based on popular media are shut down because of legal reasons. Not all of them, granted, but some are.

I also enjoyed the game. But I seem to have lost it over the years and now I can't play it ;(

Yep, I enjoyed the game also. It provided hours of entertainment, especially when I had an eye infection that wasn't fun at all.

I might have to try and find it actually...

erm copyright Mr original poster. The community might be the first to hear about it, but im sure you'll be the first to hear from the lawyers telling you to cease and desist.

Ill take this as a yes! I wanted to ask one more question however, what would YOU rather have the story take place in?

1.Pre BR movie (world war terminus)
[1996,USSR VS NATO - Hover cars, laser weapons ect]

2.BR move (oh you know this, around the same timeframe)
[You would either play the Blade Runner, or the Replicant]

3.Br movie[Offworld Colonies]
(Starcruisers, moonbusses, legal replicants,Muiltple Colonies at war)

*edit* in reply to above.

http://evolution.paynereactor.com/evolution-news.html (canned, not due to legal reasons)

Besides, this will NOT have the Blade Runner name attached, this is simply a mod based in the blade runner universe. Not to mention the rights to the Blade Runner name are all screwed up so I would have to get muiltple cease and desist letters from muiltple corperations/companies/partnerships in order for it to be viable. There is no sole ownership of blade runner, it is divided up between The Blade Runner Partnership , Warner entertainment , Philip K Dick (or his sons/daughters, god rest his soul), and another company whose name slips my mind at this time.

what, thats site supposed to make it alright. heh.

Go ahead though, but don't complain when you do get shut down.

yes, I aways thought it would make a good game/mod it has all the right elements.

i pick setting #2. It has the most possibilites..their could be many maps based around some of the movie sets without actually copying them...such as rydel corporation (his giant office), chinatown, rooftops etc

play the game Time Splitters 2, there's a level that's right out of blade runner, including talking street signs, constant rain, video billboards and even the same street noises.

I say, you should make your own original world. It's no fun when a mod gets told to shut down.

and what kind of mod is it going to be? Multi with replicants vs. runners (or multi with team A. vs team B.)? ;(

That contradicts itself

I guess ill write something up tomorrow, IMO there is enough positive feedback that this could be a successful mod Also, in the remote chance we DO get shut down ill be planning to have small backlash, AKA removing the spinners and changing the name of certian locations (only location that would need a change is the tyrell pyramid). Ill start recruitment and story writing tomorrow. And the final decision is option 2 (I was leaning towards it anyhow heh).

A Blade Runner mod would be pretty amazing. Fair enough there are loads of cyberpunk mods announced, but only a few will ever get off the ground, and most seem to be pretty generic.

There's a BR map for UT2003 and it's very cool, just walk about looking at all the stuff. You can get it here:
http://www.utmr2003.dk/map/mapinfo.asp?mapid=1981 - it's called 2019.

There won't be a BR2 so legal issues would be slim as long as it isn't called "Blade Runner: Blah blah". And don't call it "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" either :p.

After all, mods about films are just a type of fan fiction, and that isn't illegal, right? There should be some sort of law about this, so companies can only shut people down if it's a commercial use of their property.

I'm gonna watch Blade Runner tonight, you've got me back into it again, or maybe i'll read the book. Too bad i have no decent modding type skills.

EDIT - I just had a nice idea for a story, maybe you could be a replicant... but you don't know you're one, and you slowly get hints towards it until the end of the game. A bit like Tyrell's Rachael, who doesn't know she's a replicant because of the false memories.

i love blade runner, i'm so inspired by the concept artwork syd mead did for that movie!

there's a few good cyber-punk themed mods on the boil, i hope we see more 80's styled cyberpunk as well as the obligatory anime stuff :)

I'm looking forward to your mod too Teddy, I said this when you got onto the main page - Neuromancer is my favourite book!

You know, in the Director's Cut of Blade Runner Stardog Champion, we are hinted that Deckard is a replicant.... and Ridley confirmed it a while ago - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/825641.stm

EA own the game rights to Blade Runner....

I've already tried that. He didn't listen, just quoted me some other instantly forgettable mods heh.

Well, my advice is to remember that copyright laws aren't stupid, they actually do make judgements not based entirely on a name. If you make a game with glowing swords and lucas arts doesn't like it, they would almost certainly win.

It doesn't necessarily need to be based off of Blade Runner. As long as its cyberpunk and can successfully capture the atmosphere, the mod wouldn't be too bad.

which ones would they be then :p

mods

Mods that are very likely to come out for hl2 that are cyberpunk themed.

Neotokyo
Dystopia
In-corporated
Corporate Anarchy

Fans of cyberpunk, rather then starting their own cyberpunk mod, might be better off trying to help one of those four projects.

Entropy is another one, though I have a feeling it will die off very quickly. They're in way over their heads with that one.
