here i go...

so, I like to listen to lots of different types of music, the majority of them having absolutely nothing to do with pop-punk, and I never thought I'd like blink-182... but I got a CD with many of their older tracks and i think they're pretty good.

anyway, (i may be wrong about assuming this) why does everyone wince and shudder when someone talks about them, especially around here? is it because the supposedly suck nowadays, or because only those who suck listening to music generally listen to blink-182? i'd just like your points of view on this band :)

I don't like most popular music these days, as I prefer NIN and Tool and stuff, but Blink-182 isn't half bad. Particularly Enema of the State, don't care too much for their other stuff.

Why don't you like music because it is 'popular'? What does that have to do with what the band/artists play? And NIN and Tool are very popular bands.

I'm saying that I don't really like most of the music that's popular right now. Most of it is not musically appealing. NIN and Tool are not "popular" music at the time being given that they're not all over MTV and the radio (though The Hand that Feeds is getting a fair bit of play).

I'm not some dick that hates music because it's popular, I'm just saying that I don't like most of the music that's currently popular. Rap, etc.

I think Dude Ranch was okay as far as pop-punk goes, but everything else is terrible

i guess it all depends on opinion/music taste. personally, i love 'em, specially boxcar racer (tom and travis' side project)

I have their self-titled album and I think it's good, one of my better albums.

Self-titled has a few decent tracks, but apart from that and the odd song here an there, they were frankly rubbish.

I <3 NIN and Tool. Blink-182 ... meh ... okay.

Personally i like them alot, almost all their stuff i listen to occassionally. They get alot of stick, but i just find their stuff catchy. All the small things was their first song i heard, and i thought it was brilliant, and gave me some direction into liking guitars etc. Box car racer good also. So nothing bad to say really, good lads :)

damnit is there ultimate song and its so easy to play on the guitar as well

Cheshire Cat is their only album worth listening to. It actually gives you a chance to hear Blink 182, and not the corporate sellout they have become. It's raw, rough, and so much better than anything they've put out since. Which technically isn't saying anything considering their new stuff is disgustingly terrible, but it's an album worth listening to, no doubt. In small doses, at least...

as a matter of fact that's the album i like the best. "wasting my time" and "carousel" are pretty good and raw-sounding like you said, but i like ;)

Not to be a buzzkill or anything when it comes to all you blink 182 lovers but i personally think they are a terrible band. Their singing to me seemes like they're crying and moaning. Musically, they're not hot either, their guitar is bland and uninspired (power chords and some siple riffs c'mon) and the bass is dull. the drumming is okay but nothing powerful. i just don't think they're anything special or creatively original. Now, if you REALLY want to hear good music listen to zeppelin hendrix pink floyd of even some other popular bands from the 60s and 70s and then compare the two.

First off, it's pretty obvious that you havn't listened to their earlier stuff. Seriously, listen to Cheshire Cat and then tell me what you think. It's absolutely nothing like their new stuff, which I agree, is awful.

Second, you can't even compare a pop/punk band like blink 182 to the bluesy/rock of Hendrix, the diverse rock mastery of Zeppelin, or the psychadelic concept rock of Floyd. No one here is claiming Blink 182 is a better band than any of the above listed, we're just giving our opinions on them. I mean, we could all compare every new film director to Hitchcock and every new author to Hemmingway, but that wouldn't really be fair, would it?

My main point was that they really lack musical diversity (not to mean that they should be playing jazz blues and all other styles of music). Don't get me wrong, I have listened to them (even their early stuff) because my friend is a HUGE fan and I'm not impressed. I mean you'll have to agree that they are pretty bad when it comes to their musicianship. Also, what's wrong with comparing them? they all play rock n' roll style music. They only vary in that they are further catorgarized into sub-genres and the such. But I know what you mean. Finally, who would you compare them with?

Sure, none of them are great musicians. However, when has punk ever been about technicality or vocals or solos? Punk is mostly about energy, and I feel their older material accomplishes this.

There's nothing wrong with comparing them. All I was saying is that comparing them to rock and roll's greatest artists of all time is a little unfair. If you were going to compare them, I'd say go with currents artists in their genre. Maybe good charlotte or simple plan or whatnot. I mean, in comparison, their older stuff kicks both of these bands asses.

But like I said, I don't really agree with comparing. I just look at their music as it is and try to appreciate it. Sure, when compared to the Ramones or Fugazi, even their older stuff is terrible. On it's own, however, it's enjoyable in small doses.
