The vampire-themed modification for Half-Life 2, Bloodthirst released a nice new set of screenshots on their website today for us all to gawk at.[br]

[br]The team has been beavering away on two new maps, and some very beautiful concept art. Thanks go to X_i_Z_o_R and Smeg, the two mappers for the maps and the artwork.

I'm getting a Predator vibe...

Maps look less than OK. Sorry.

Concept art is fairly decent.

the street image looks pretty crap but the bathroom one shows more promise, even if its not quite there. That street one just feelsso 5 years ago, I'll assume they will add to it later but since its prob a WIP.

Hey, i'm smeg, just popping in to see comments, i'm really interested why you would actually go to the level of reviewing this mod, these screenshots are less than 20% finished, this media update was intended to give people an idea of what's going on.

"apparently light appears from nowhere..."
- Your apparently bright yourself sir. Hardly no static props have been added yet, these will come later.

"Maps look less than OK. Sorry"
- Harsh shot at somthing that's really early indevelopment, i can take critisim but these maps even at the current stage are better than OK, maybe it just don't come across in these screenshots, but they are blaintantly better than ok, you have a poor sence of judgement :p

- Yes, I remind you again, the street's are basic layouts at the moment of the levels. On this screenshot here

You can see how the detial is just starting to get added on some parts.

Thanks for your comments.

Always good for a mod to see what people outside the fourms think. That third shot looks much better. your buildings seem a little lifeless, but if you work on those it will look great

But....why do you have a warning level...

Then why didn't you release THAT screenshot?

The way I see it, if you release stuff to the community, you better be ready for hardcore critiques. You have a choice whether or not to release it, so don't act like if it's a WIP, and we call you on it, it's our fault.

Mods need to quit putting out unfinished stuff. I know you're trying to get your mod out, but no one's going to be impressed by a basic street layout. At the very least you should stamp "WIP" on it, but even then, I don't see the point in showing off the the world your half finished work.

Good point but you have to release media for the fans... And it's stated it was WIP. Also that screenshot is released m8 ?... www.bloodthirst.org.

i got a warning level because of the simple fact i advertised my site on the forums, but i thought it would be okay due to the fact it's non profit and its dedicated to Source mappers :D http://www.hl2mapping.com < see for yourself, it's basicly a place i made for mappers to upload there maps to show that they have a place where people actually want to view peoples maps, and review them.

Halflife2.net shot me down with loads of warnings, and it's quite lame including they added the warnings with loads of things like saying it's commercal advertising and so forth, so that's why i have the warnings..

So basicly it's because i was doing the communtiy a nice favour, i get stabbed in return by one of the leading communty sites, pretty ironic and lame, others have agreed.

Hmm, I don't mean to sound harsh here, but have you been around long in the community? Kind of wierd you are saying somthing like that.

All i am saying is, MOD teams always release media, at the first stages once everything is starting to get developed, is to release some WIP media, now, if a mod is in development, your going to have WIP media constantly.

We at bloodthirst, don't see the point in releasing "sexy" pictures to make the mod look like somthing it's not as this stage in the design process.

It's stated on our website (The Source of the Media Update) that its eary work, and it's to give fans and various people of the community a insite to what to expect.

Yes, i always read peoples comments on my work, and other peoples work in the team, it is an important thing to consider whilst working on a game.

Feedback is always welcome, but as i say, when people simply put "Crap" it's kind of a poor way to treat your own commutiy your apparantly apart of.

Alot has changed during 4 years, it's starting to get a lot more popular and is bringing bad attitudes in towards the modding community.

Thanks for your time. Smeg.

I know and understand that mod teams release media. My point is, from a public relations standpoint, it's bad to put a half finished foot forward.

I mean, obviously the mod is not yet done. No mods are yet. But release stuff that is done. Stuff that looks like something that is competitive with the rest of the mod world.

Yeah, we know it's a WIP...but for all we know, it's a WIP only because you've left out one light, and then you think it's done. If you want to represent your mod in a positive fashion, you should only release stuff that shows that you've got something better than the rest.

You don't see movie companies releasing trailers of uncut footage. There's no reason why you shouldn't treat your mod as something as special as a major released movie.

Yes, i hear what you are saying, i understand your point, but as a mod team we felt it was ready to release somthing, and it was just to let people know "We are working on it full-time"

I'm happy i have sorted things out with your guys, and answered some questions. The communtiy in a whole means a lot to every mod team.

As i said it's to show things are getting done, not to show this game is finshed and looking sexy :|

I'd like to thank everyone for the comments. Maybe you can come across to the bloodthirst.org forums and express your thoughts, that way you are actually helping us in a big way.

Again - Thanks for your time.

Smeg

You don't release media of unfinished things when you are showing mod updates. Look at any othe mod update. They COMPLETED models, or atleast screenshots of a map where THAT section of the map is COMPLETED.

Otherwise the people think your mod sucks, because you didn't say anything in the post.

We don't permit advertising, non-profit or otherwise without prior consent. Maybe you should have asked first...

Haha wow I was kind of an asshole back then wasn't I.

Well I certainly wouldn't act like that anymore. :p
