teaser for a futuristic MMO looks bloody fantastic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62IAm33zixU&fmt=18

it's everything you want in a futuristic MMO, vast oceans and endless horizons to explore etc ...but:

Though set on a future Mars terraformed for human habitation, Blue Mars isn?t hardcore sci-fi ? indeed, the company?s hoping to attract non-gamer women who?ll enjoy shopping, socializing and playing casual games built into its idyllic locales.

ahh ffs, why would you waste the potential of creating a futuristic world with one of the most life like 3d engines in gaming just so you can go do mundane every day tasks such as shopping or playing golf?

Now all they need to do is give one lucky sob a rocket launcher,

On mars....in the year 2150....

I'm thinking Doom4 :D

Just kidding though there is a Doom4 in production
It looks good graphic wise
Now it's just a matter of how it'll turn out Gameplay wise etc

shopping and socializing plus casual games = gameplay

ya except the content is developed by third party professional developers

But it's still boring, right? Pretty and boring, I'll give them that, very pretty, but still boring, right?

do you like shopping? how about socializing with your friends while shopping? ...no? then yes it'll bore you and most people here ..as pesmerga pointed out, a rocket launcher would go a long way in making this game fun ..specifically when other players go shopping or are socialzing

I'd prefer a meatcleaver/large sword ..think Conan in space with many many many decapitations and you'll start to get the idea

The problem I foresee with this is that the typical Second-Lifer demographic doesn't have close to the graphics horsepower on board to handle Cry-Engine quality graphics. They'll be disappointed when they can't shop for digital shoes on their Intel Integrated graphics.

Imagine all those "non-gamer women" getting an e-mail thanking them for purchasing Blue Mars with some tips about where to shop and what shows are hip and a notice not to stray into the Yellow Sector on Level 19, as a serial rapist has been prowling the area for the last two weeks and he likes to cut his victims' avatars.

methinks in no time the Yellow Sectors will outnumber all other sectors ...seems like a griefers wet dream

the game wont be released for another 3-4 years ..they've said by then anyone should be able to run the game

that's what they always say ..by the end you'll need a 10800 GTX x3, an octo-core cpu running at 4GHZ (overclocked of course, 32GB of ram and 1 terrabyte storage space (1.9 terrabytes fully installed)

It's rather presumptuous to assume everyone will have a dedicated GPU, much less one that will run Crysis quality graphics 3-4 years down the road. Most Second-Life style girl gamers I know honestly don't know what a graphics card is, and run integrated Intel on their Macbooks or something similar. If what they were assuming was true, integrated graphics would have no trouble with Half-Life 2 by now, which simply isn't the case.

Quick, send Arnold Schwarzenegger there and tell him he's an undercover agent.

Am I the only one who always thinks that something just doesn't look right about the CryEngine 2? I mean, it squeezes about every modern graphical technique in there, but I think that it looks as good as most people seem to. I guess that's what happens when you boast something is photo-realistic.

Especially with Intel Demographics about being on top of the graphics market in 3-4 years ;)

Had to

It was a reference to both the movie and the spoof video. We're all winners, here.

I know what you mean. Probably some crazy uncanny valley shit.

Far Cry 2 is not the end all be all of computer generated graphics. It looks weird because it's not a realistic portrayal of what a human actually looks like.

it should be cool if that game where like total recall

player: oh I gonna buy those shoes
friend character: tamy there is one thing we have to say to you?
*player answer*
tamy(player character):what?
friend: get her!
*other players grab tamy inmobilizing her*
player: what the?
friend: sorry tamy you must die *aims gun at head*
<on screen: press ctrl to kick gum and fight><player press control>
*tamy make ninja kick to the gun, gory battle where everyone end up dead in a pool of blood ensues*
tamy: oh god they tryed to kill me,I must find what is going on
player: what is this?

I can't help feeling this is just going to be another URU. When will developers realise that big, first person chatrooms are about as popular as virtual reality headsets?

If Syd Mead and Roger Dean are involved, they are going to be taking a HUGE cut in the profits - we are talking THE most prestigious designers in the design industry here, not some average throw-away CG game artists. Add in all that giant corporate advertising bollox to the mix and the subscription fees will be astronomical, probably aimed at a target audience rich enough to fly to mars anyway.

Though I might be tempted to sign up just to watch paris hilton with shopping bag accessories realistically ragdoll off a high bridge on the end of a fizzling rocket.

the game is free ..revenue is generated by microtransactions ..they've already talked leasing virtual space so it's along the lines of Second Life ..the thing that makes Second Life is that people do stuff that the developers probably never intended ..like making it rain cocks ..developer driven content better be awesome otherwise there wont be a hell of a lot to do

anyone remember Seed? or There? they ultimately tanked because there wasnt a hell of a lot to do once you went through all the superficial content

yeah, when i had a bad system i could run crysis on low easy, it just looked terrible.

Oh wow, a CG Trailer, this sure hypes me up for the game...

Pause not.

Im not sure wether they just stole the name , iv not read the book so i dont know if this is the same. Its the same date from what i understand but i can find no other connection.

I know the screenshot is from the game BUT i mean how it plays
Screenshots aren't everything

that's what I mean ..the gameplay is made up of little mini games like the pictured golf ..there's no combat
