I'm not able to browse the files on the disk, let alone install them. I can run the Half-Life 2 Demo and Half-Life one without any issues. Steam is always open and is up to date when I try to browse the disks. Somebody help?

If you're having trouble installing through the retail disks, you can always go to Steam itself, download and activate the game from there. In the My Games tab, click on "Activate a product on Steam..." at the bottom left and follow the instructions from thereon.

Whilst this is a way of getting around it it could be a bit inconvenient due to download caps and long download times.

Have you tried booting into 'Safe Mode with Networking' and then installing it. You should then be able to install it no problems, then you can restart your PC and play!

Remember to report back if you fix it!

PS if you have a low spec system, it might be an idea to buy a new PC - you'll benefit a great deal from it when running the orange box and other new games!
