I keep getting a blue screen claiming that windows needs to shut down any time I get on mozilla firefox. It says check hardware and turn off shadowing and caching on ram. Any idea what the problem could be?

What else does it say? I used to get a BSOD saying that a while ago (driver_irq_not_less_or_equal, etc), and that was due to overheating, I think.

it says something like oc_errorcode I will write it down next time it happens. It may be due to overheating because my processor was running at like 59 degrees C when It started.

Heh, mine was around 70C. Write it down next time it happens and google it, you should find information on what caused it

Heh, when my PC overheats (which happens 30mhz over stock) it just freezes, which means its so badly screwed it cant even initiate the BSOD :( Or maybe its just an evil Dell conspiracy.

check your memory, I had this problem before and it was caused by a faulty memory stick.
if you have more than 1 stick try 1 at a time and see if it still crashes, its all a process of elimination with fault finding like this.
same with your gfx card or your proccesor if you have a spare 1 swap it and see if you have the same error.
If you think its overheating (which i dont think it is) take the side panel off and see if it does it.

Good luck

Can you give the STOP code? I could definetly isolate it if you could.

Yeah, sinkoman is spot on. Get the STOP code. It will look something like:

STOP: 0x000000et (0x000000065 ... etc.)

I had a Thread_Stuck_in_device_driver one.

Anyway, you use firefox!? You heathen! Its a sign that firefox is evil.

Firefox is so much better than IE, you wouldn't even know.

Starting out at 59degreese is a prety nasty high temp.

Ok, I found the code: STOP: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80545ff0, 0xb2000000, 0x00070f0f). Might be my sound card huh?

well, I turned off shadowing and caching on my ram modules and that seemed to do something. I haven't had a machine_stop error but I did have my machine just suddenly turn off when I clicked on the device manager.

Anything useful? How about:

0x0000009C: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
This is a hardware issue: an unrecoverable hardware error has occurred. The parameters have different meanings depending on what type of CPU you have but, while diagnostic, rarely lead to a clear solution. Most commonly it results from overheating, from failed hardware (RAM, CPU, hardware bus, power supply, etc.), or from pushing hardware beyond its capabilities (e.g., overclocking a CPU).

It also links you to here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/w2kmsgs/1252.asp

Which is Microsoft's take on a solution.

I disabled the caching and shadowing and removed my sound card, which seemed to work. I've been reading on the net about people with this same problem and they have the same card as I do. Either that or it is the motherboard. Either way it seemed to work. Unfortunantly, I am now forced to use the onboard audio.
